Lands Council Seeks Public Comments During Meeting

By By

The Emery County Public Lands Council will hold a public meeting Jan. 26, 7 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael in Castle Dale.
The purpose of the meeting is to update local citizens on recent developments in public land management and to solicit input.
Since 1997, one of the stated objectives of the public lands council has been to “Evaluate and utilize a broad variety of land management tools as appropriate to local circumstances, rather than limit management options to conventional one-size-fits-all approaches.”
Over the past 20 years, many designations have been considered for public lands in Emery County, including wilderness, a national park, a national monument, and a national conservation area. At the meeting, the council will review each of these alternatives in relation to recent changes in the U.S. Senate, Utah’s Congressional Delegation and the White House. Other land management alternatives may also be discussed. All interested persons are encouraged to attend.
