Candidates File for Public Office Positions

Emery County voters will decide the direction of local government in this year’s general election, with virtually every elected position in the county to be voted on. The filing period for candidates wishing to run for office opened March 7 and will run through March 18.
Offices to be voted on in the Nov. 5 general election include:
– County Commissioner: Two commissioner positions will be voted on this year, with both Commissioner A and Commissioner B terms to be decided. Both seats are for four year terms.
– County Assessor: Four year term.
– County Attorney: Four year term.
– County Clerk/Auditor: Four year term.
– County Recorder: Four year term.
– County Treasurer: Four year term.
– County Sheriff: Four year term.
– Emery County School Board. In the Emery County School District Board there are two positions open, one for School Board District Four, which consists of voting precincts Huntington West #9, Elmo #11 and part of Huntington East #8 (north and east). The other position is for School Board District Five, which consists of voting precincts Emery #1, Cleveland #11 and Green River #12.
– State School Board. One position open for State School Board District 14 for a term of four years. Fourteenth District consists of Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Grand, Kane, Piute, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah and Wayne Counties.
– Court of Appeals. There will be a retention election for six judges on the Court of Appeals, to be voted on by voters statewide, provided that the incumbent whose terms are expiring file during the filing period.
– District Court. There will be a retention election for two judges in the Seventh District, to be voted on by voters in Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan Counties, provided that the incumbents whose terms are expiring file during the filing period.
– Juvenile Court. There will be a retention election for two judges in the Seventh District, to be voted on by voters in Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan Counties, provided that the incumbents whose terms are expiring file during the filing period.
– Justice Court. There will be a retention election for two Emery County Justice Court Judges, provided that the incumbents whose terms are expiring file during the filing period.
Those interested in filing for candidacy in any of the elected positions open should go to the Emery County Clerk/Auditor’s Office by no later than March 18 at 5 p.m.
