A Day at the Races

The Emery County Fair Horse Races took place on Aug. 3 at the Ferron track.
There were 10 races throughout the afternoon for the enjoyment of the spectators. Competitors from near and far were part of the racing action. In the first race which was for quarterhorse maidens, 3 years and up, 250 yards, DCG Blushing Chad was the winner, BJ Stokes trainer and owner.
In the second race which was a quarterhorse derby for 250 yards the winner was Oxford’s Pride, Kent McKell, of Ferron, owner and trainer, Jason Behling, of Ferron.
In the third race which was a 250 yard, quarterhorse maidens and 2 year olds, the winner was CR Empty Pockets, owners, Romer and Jean Curtis, trainer Rodger Ewell, of Huntington.
In the fourth race which was five furlongs for maidens, 3 year olds and up, the winner was Crystal Billy, owned and trained by Rodger Ewell. In the fifth race which was 250 yards for maiden 2 year olds, Kent’s no name was the winner, owner Kent McKell, trainer Rodger Ewell.
In the sixth race which was a quarterhorse open for 250 yards the winner was DD Nobel 60, owner and trainer Dick York. In the seventh race which was a 250 yard quarterhorse futurity, Bowman’s Mark was the winner, owners, Romar and Jean Curtis, trainer, Rodger Ewell.
In the eighth race, which was the five furlong Dick Wilson Memorial, the winner was Smokin’ Star, owner Floyd Ence, trainer, East Side Stables. In the ninth race, the 3/8ths open, Sir Gamblin Blurr was the winner, owner and trainer, Dick York. The tenth and concluding race was the 3/8ths open, the winner was Jazzin Dreamer, owner, Gary Allred and trainer, Kennedy Racing.
