Input Sought on SR-10 Plans

By By

The Utah Department of Transportation plans to widen State Route 10 from Huntington to Poison Springs Bench and is seeking public input on the project.
Current plans call for safety improvements to include the addition of passing lanes, widening of shoulders, and modifying shoulder slopes on the five-mile section of S.R. 10 from mile marker 48 to mile marker 53. The project includes an extension of Huntington’s five-lane main street to make a smooth transition into passing lanes that will then extend over the hill north of town to about mile marker 53.
UDOT plans to start construction in spring 2003.
An environmental study has been prepared to look at what impacts the proposed widening may have on the surrounding environment – including social, economic, cultural, historical, wetland, and wildlife issues.
An official public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21, to allow open discussion on the project, its environmental documents, and to take written and verbal comments from the public. UDOT’s goal is to share information and take comments that identify any remaining issues that should be addressed with this project. The hearing will be held at Huntington Town Hall (40 North Main St.) from 5 to 6:30 p.m. It will be an open house format where the public can visit with and give feedback to project team members.
The environmental document is available for review at Michael Baker Jr., Inc. in Salt Lake City, UDOT Region Four offices in Richfield, UDOT Price District in Price, Emery County offices, Huntington City Hall and at Castle Dale City Hall.
Anyone desiring to provide written comments should mail them to H. G. Kunzler, Michael Baker Jr., Inc., 6955 South Union Park Center, Suite 370, Midvale, Utah 84047. Comments must be received by Sept. 5.
Individuals needing further information or special ADA accommodations should contact H. G. Kunzler at (801) 352-5977 or by e-mail at hkunzler@mbakercorp.com.
