Volunteers gather at Swasey’s Cabin to roll up their sleeves, pitch in and give something back to the nation’s public lands

Swasey’s Cabin was the spot for National Public Lands Day in Emery County on Saturday. Many youth groups and volunteers as well as Bureau of Land Management employees from the Price Field Office were on hand for the improvement projects. Commissioner Randy Johnson as well as members of the public lands council, Vernell Rowley and Tom Roush and recreation subcommittee member, Margaret Swasey added their efforts to the day’s work. The roof was rebuilt on Swasey’s Cabin. Buck and rail fencing was installed as well as the rewiring of an existing fence line. A trail was built to the Swasey’s cooler where they used to store meat. The workers were treated to mild fall weather and a panoramic view of the San Rafael Swell.
