The 2002 Horse 4-H season ended with a flurry of activities including service projects, parades, the annual awards banquet, and State competition. Most of the clubs have been involved in service projects throughout the summer. In July, 4-H members, along with parents and leaders, cleaned the grounds and painted the chutes at the Castle Dale Arena for the San Rafael Pro Rodeo.
Other projects have included clean up projects, representing the 4-H at community meetings, and teaching others about horses and horsemanship. Some of the clubs rode in the rain at the Peach Days Parade and then went down the next week to clean up the city park in Ferron.
Three of the Seniors: Jade Jensen, Jesse Jensen, and Amy Langston, competed at the Utah State Region Team Show in Nephi in August. With two other team members from the Southeastern Region, they finished in third place in State Team competition.
On Sept. 6, Horse 4-H members and their families met in Castle Dale at the pool for a swimming party, then moved to the Recreation Building for an awards program to celebrate the successes of the season. They all enjoyed a barbeque, with many items donated by local businesses, and the rest furnished by the families. Each member who signed up for horse 4-H, including the 12 members from Green River, received a T-shirt.
Everyone who showed in at least four of the five county shows received a braided roping rein and a chinstrap. State qualifiers received “hoodies” with their name and Emery County State Team embroidered on the back. The Champion and Reserve Champion All-Around winners received belt buckles.
