Victor Zavala
PRICE – Victor Christopher Zavala, age 63, passed away Oct. 15, 2002 in Price.
He was born Nov. 8, 1938 in Longmont, Colo., to Antonio and Isabel Cano Zavala. Married Helen Medina June 25, 1960.
Member of Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Graduate of Carbon High School Class of 1958. Member UMWA Deer Creek Local 1769 where he retired in November of 2000.
Victor was an avid Denver Bronco’s fan. He enjoyed traveling, bowling, fishing, hunting and camping.
Survived by beloved wife of 42 years, Helen Zavala, Price; daughter, Carrie (Paul) Mullis, Indianapolis, Ind.; sons, Tony (Luz) Zavala, Lawrence (Ruth) Zavala, both of South Jordan; eight sisters, Julie (Manuel) Mercado, West Valley; Pat (Manuel) Vigil, Kearns; Jennie Garcia, Salt Lake City; Francis Godines, South Jordan; Dorthy Hernandez, Salt Lake City; Mercy (Ben) Williams, Kearns; Kathy Finn, Salt Lake City; Mary Jane Godines, West Jordan; grandchildren; Darlene, Chrystal, Jeremy, Chad, Tellina and Neosha; and many loving great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents.
Funeral Mass was held Oct. 18, Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service was Thursday evening, Mitchell Funeral Home. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Rosella Henrie
PRICE – Rosella Anne Henrie, age 78, passed away Sept. 28, 2002 at Castleview Hospital.
She was born June 6, 1924 in Atlantic, Iowa, to Walter and Pearl Stormer. She married W. Dee Henrie in Elko, Nev. July 22, 1968.
Rose grew up in the Iowa area and had many challenges and difficulties while in her youth which perhaps was influential in developing her tough and spirited personality. Most of her life though, was spent in Price.
She had several employers while living in Price like the Newhouse Motel, The Coffee Cup and others. More recently, she helped with the senior citizens bus.
Rose liked collecting knickknacks and frequented many second hand stores.
Rose had been recently baptized into the LDS Church and was a member of the Price 11th LDS Ward.
She will be missed by her husband and friends.
Survived by husband, W. Dee Henrie.
William Lonnie (Bill) Mitchell
LEHIGH, Fla. – William Lonnie (Bill) Mitchell passed away Sept. 27 at the LeHigh Florida Hospital Emergency Room. He was born Sept. 25, 1947.
Bill attended Alva Florida schools until joining the U.S. Army in 1964. After the military, he worked at U.S. Fuel Company at Hiawatha and the Fausett Mortuary in Price.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Austin Mitchell, Olga, Fla.; parents, Lonnie and Ann Mitchell, Olga, Fla.; daughters, Denice (MarLon) Roberts, LaBelle, Fla.; Jackie (Erik) Richards, Salt Lake City; Billie Ann (Dusty) Christiansen, Price; brothers, John (Barbara) Mitchell, Olga, Fla.; sisters, Cindy (John) Toupin, N.C.; Julie (Matt) Curtis, Rabun Gap, Ga.; eight grandchildren; in-laws, Reid and Phyllis Austin, Ferron.
According to his wishes and because of his love for the river, he was cremated and a memorial service was held Oct. 5 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fort Myers. Service then reconvened at the South Franklin Locks Pavilion One at Olga with a veterans tribute at 10:15 a.m.

Wesley Smith
EAST CARBON-Wesley E. Smith, age 73, was called home by his Heavenly Father on Oct. 9, 2002 in Price.
He was born Jan. 15, 1929 in Detroit, Mich., to Alvin A. and Hazel I. Wade Smith. Married Anna Margaret Courtney March 31, 1954 in Norfolk, Va.
Member of the Baptist Church. Graduate Colorado Springs High School in Colorado. Served U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, Member of the Telluride BPOE for many years.
Wes spent his working years in mining, Silver Bell Mine in Colorado, uranium mines in New Mexico, Utah and Arizona and retired from the coal mines in Sunnyside. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 9958 since 1973.
Wes loved fishing, hunting and the time spent at Trout Lake with family, friends and co-workers.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Castle Country Care Center nurses, aides and staff for their loving care of Wes and for their friendships and support to our family. Thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice for their care of Wes during his short battle with cancer.
Those mourning his passing are his wife, Meg Smith, East Carbon; son, David Smith, Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Helen (Rick) Nielson, Maybell, Colo.; sisters, Betty (Jack) Booze, Tehachapi, Calif.; Donna (Neal) Campbell, Grand Junction, Colo.; Diana Fahrion, Cortez, Colo.; four grandchildren, Star, Salt Lake City; Courtney, Donielle, Alysia, all of Glendale, Ariz.; many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Darell, Glenn and beloved twin, Lesley.
Memorial service, Saturday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Saturday one hour prior to services.

Fran Myers
FT. COLLINS, Colo. – Frances Katherine Myers, age 87, passed away Oct. 15, 2002, at her home in Ft. Collins, Colo.
She was born Sept. 6, 1915 in Salt Lake City, to Nick and Mary Frkovic Myers.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ft. Collins. She was a longtime resident of Carbon County and graduate of Carbon High School. Former resident of Albany, Calif., for many years prior to retiring to Ft. Collins.
Survived by sister, Ann Jackson, Ft. Collins, Colo.; niece, JoAnn Maxton, Ft. Collins, Colo.; and many other loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joseph, John, Mike and Tony Myers.
Funeral Mass Tuesday, Oct. 22, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Monday evening, Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday one hour prior to services.
