Vernon Edwin Huff
Vernon Edwin Huff, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at home Jan. 3, 2003. He was born Dec. 30, 1933 in Castle Gate, Utah to Manson and Mary Elizabeth Allred Huff. He married Arlene Bradley Oct. 21, 1954 in Wellington, later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple in 1967.
Vernon retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years, returning home to Carbon County in 1974 where he worked in the coal mines and for the LDS church in maintenance until his retirement. Vern loved model trains, fishing and crossword puzzles. He loved spending time with his family in the outdoors, fishing and camping and just being together. He was an active member of the LDS church where he served in numerous callings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Arlene of Wellington and children Brad and Jessieann Huff of Price, Verna and Mark Thatcher of Kemmerer, Wyo., Doris and Gordon Haws of Herington, Kan., Mike and Michele Huff of Price; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers and sisters; Darwin and Mary Huff, Jim and Arline Anderson, Norman and Collene Huff. LaVell and Annette Huff, and sister-in-law Sue Huff. Preceded in death by parents, son Steven and brothers Orland, Dennis and Paul. Vernon was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends he leaves behind.
Funeral services will be held Tues. Jan. 7, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the old Wellington LDS Chapel. The family will be at Fausett Mortuary in Price Monday evening from 7-8 p.m. and the mortuary will remain open until 9 p.m. Friends may also call one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Price City Cemetery.
Geary Lavar Taylor
Our beloved Geary LaVar Taylor, 64, died suddenly from a work related accident on Dec. 26, 2002. He was born July 11, 1938 in Orangeville to Jarred Leroy and Della May Cox Taylor. He married Linda Marie Hayes on June 25, 1960 in Hollywood, Calif. They later divorced, but remained friends. He later married Mary Lee Anderson on Nov. 7, 1986 in Las Vegas, Nev. Geary loved life and enjoyed gardening, fixing up the house, camping, the outdoors and a good movie. He was very accomplished in woodworking. He was active in the community and had served on the Huntington City planning and zoning committee. He was a member of the LDS church. He especially loved his family and that love was returned to him.
He is survived by his devoted wife Mary Lee of Huntington; children, Jeron (Deb) Taylor of Herriman, Susan (Trever) Kattenhorn of Powell, Wyo., Michael Taylor of Las Vegas, Nev., Cheri Emanuel of Las Vegas, Nev., Kenny (MaRecia) Freeby of Lehi, T.J. (Jacquie) Dale of Orem, Tommari Sorensen of Huntington. Eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. Also his father and mother in- law Jesston and Donna Anderson of Aurora. Sister Barbara Baudack of Salt Lake City, and special sister Mickie (Bert) Tuft of Aurora. Brothers Chester (Betty) Vaughn of Las Vegas, Nev. and Jack H. (Janet) Taylor of Huntington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Friends called Sunday Dec. 29 at the Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Funeral services were held Monday Dec. 30 at the Huntington First Ward Chapel. Burial followed in the Orangeville City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Joe Leyba
SUNNYSIDE – Roman Joe Leyba, age 85, passed away Jan. 4, 2003 at his home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1917 in Canjilon, N.Mex. Married Susana Maestas Jan. 25, 1939 in Canjilon, N.Mex.
Member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Longtime resident of Sunnyside where he was a retired member of the UMWA Kaiser Steel Local #9958. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family. Joe loved to play the guitar and listen to Mexican music.
Survived by loving wife, Susana J. Leyba, Sunnyside; four sons and one daughter, Jake (Tonie) Leyba, East Carbon; Joe R. (Rebecca) Leyba Jr., Albuquerque, N.Mex.; George (Josie) Leyba, Salt Lake; Paul (Virginia) Leyba, West Valley, Mary (Wilfred) Vigil, Sunnyside; sister, Tina Trujillo; sister-in-law, Fedila Leyba, both of Clearfield; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Joe, Ruben and Manuel Leyba; and sister, Senida.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, 10 a.m., Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service Tuesday evening, 7 p.m., at the church in East Carbon. Family will be at the church one hour prior to services. Committal service, Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
