Phyllis R. Jensen
HUNTINGTON-Phyllis Marjorie Rickerd Jensen, age 65, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away Jan. 28, 2003 in Provo, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Feb. 16, 1937 in Toledo, Ohio to Willard D. and Verna Mahaffey Rickerd. She married Vernon J. Jensen Nov. 27, 1954 in Toledo, Ohio, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
As an active member of the LDS Church, she held numerous callings. As an accomplished oil painter, she was well known, being admitted in the Who’s Who in Washington D.C. She also had a love for music, whether teaching or playing the piano. She loved sharing her talents with her family and community. She had a deep and abiding love for her family, by whom she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband Vernon of Huntington and children; Debra Lynn and Warren Oviatt of Huntington; Robert and Cheryl Jensen of Gunnison; Thomas and Christine Jensen of Huntington; Janet and Larry Devereaux of Elmo; and Gordon and Shauna Jensen of Salt Lake City; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother John Rickerd and sister Gerry Smith. Preceded in death by parents and sister Ilene Moon.
Funeral services were held Sat. Feb. 1, 2003 at the Huntington Stake Center. Burial was in the Huntington Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Jean Jensen
Our ever so loved, precious mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Edna Jean Millius Ganino Jensen, left this physical world Feb. 2, 2003 after a courageous struggle with cancer. She departed this world with her loving companion Bill Durham asleep at her side. Though Jean waited until all her children had assembled at her home she did not pass from this world until she knew they were all in slumber and at peace with her passing.
Mom was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Sharon, Conn. to Milliard Millius and Margaret Coons Millius. At a very young age, her parents divorced and she was forced to live in an orphanage in upstate New York while attending Catholic school where nuns helped raise her. She never talked about her experiences growing up, nor ever complained. She married Rosario A. Ganino Aug. 13, 1949 and they had eight children together. Russ passed away April 20, 1968. She then married Darwin O. Jensen Dec. 31, 1969. Darwin passed away March 30, 1980. Mom met Bill B. Durham approximately a year later and they remained close companions until her last moments.
Mom was a very talented quilt maker and enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. A gypsy at heart she loved to travel and would often take off on the spur of a moment to visit her children, friends or family members in another state. She loved camping, gardening, rock hunting, yard sales, auctions and gambling. But most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and her animals.
Mom loved her family and was a dedicated and protective mother until her moment of death. She gave of herself tirelessly throughout her life and often sacrificed her own needs for those in her family. She showered her love and cheer everywhere she traveled and taught us all to be happy and live each day with hope, cheer and courage. She met death with the same dignity and courage that she faced life.
Mother looked forward to reuniting with those family members who proceeded her in death: her infant son, Bruno Ganino, who passed away shortly after his birth; the father of her seven children, Rosario A. Ganino; her second husband and dear friend, Darwin O. Jensen; her beloved brother and sister, Clarence (Buddy) Melvin and Alice (Dickie) Millius.
Those who have survived to celebrate her life are her devoted and loving companion, Bill Durham; seven children, Bruno A. Ganino (Kathy) of Huntington; Rusty A. (Minnie)Ganino of Green River, Wyo.; Tony C. Ganino of Price; Missy (Joe) Ganino of Moab; Joey M. (Blondie) Ganino of Price; Danny E. (Eileen) Ganino of Divide Co.; and Susan (Brent) Tuttle of Orangeville; as well as 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and dear friend of over 50 years, Clair Morris of Stamford, Conn.
As Jean’s children, we would like to offer her heartfelt appreciation to Bill Durham for his dedicated love and care of our Mom. We would also like to thank Melissa from Hospice and Dr. Gagon for their help and support in our time of need.
Mom requested she be cremated and that there be no funeral, so to abide by her wishes the family has chosen to dedicate Tues., Feb. 4, as a day to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Rocky Mountain Hospice of Price. Under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.

Lillie Tollis
SUNNYSIDE – Our precious mother, Lillie Mary Garcia Tollis, was welcomed into the loving arms of God and her beloved husband on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003.
She was born July 17, 1919 in Raton, N.M. to Cash and Betty Gallegos Garcia. Married Arnando R. (Dugie) Tollis Sr., Oct. 6, 1934 in Lexington, Neb. He died July 26, 2002.
She leaves behind a family of friends and loved ones who will forever be indebted to her for the unconditional love and generosity she so graciously gave to everyone. Mom touched the lives of so many with her kindness, generosity, love and forgiveness. Although from humble beginnings, she left this world a rich woman. Her wealth came not from material possessions, but in the knowledge that her love lives on in the hearts of her beloved family.
We will miss her Sunday Italian dinners, her phone calls, her long good-byes, her sense of humor, her beautiful face, her unending “I love you’s, her ability to catch a “fly”, her special little gifts, her wisdom, her touch, her everything. Mom, we love you so.
Mom suffered through much pain in her remaining years. When she found herself complaining, she would become upset with herself and would immediately rattle off a list of why she was so lucky. On the top of the list was her family. Mom, we want you to know that letting go is so hard to do. We can’t describe our love for you and the void we will forever feel. Vaja con dios, our angel.
Mom’s family would like to thank Dr. Glenn Etzell, the staff at Castleview Hospital and Parkdale Care Center for the excellent care given to our mother in her last days. We are indebted to a community of friends and neighbors who through the years looked in on Mom and somehow made her days less lonely. You are true messengers of God.
Survived by two daughters and one son, Betty (Mike) Valdez, Fern Wilkerson, both of Murray; Doug (Flora) Tollis, East Carbon City; sisters, Minnie (Ben) Berman, Emma (Joe) Carranza, both of Kearney, Neb.; brothers, Eddie (Margaret) Garcia, Lexington, Neb.; Gilbert (Cecelia) Garcia, Florence, Colo.; Glen (Sandy) Garcia, Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren, Ricci, Tamara, Doug, Mary, Michael Ann, and Michael Douglas; 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and special pet, McGee. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Orlando, Walter and Al Garcia; sisters, Sally Archuletta and Pauline Heufner; and special daughter, Christine Starzel.
Funeral Mass was Monday, Feb. 3, Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Harold Matsuda
HELPER – Harold Hisao Matsuda, age 84, passed away Jan. 31, 2003 in Price.
Born Oct. 17, 1918 in Penryn, Calif. to Hisataro and Tomeo Niimi Matsuda. Married Helen Amano April 22, 1948 in Helper.
Harold was raised in Hiroshima, Japan and adventured back to the USA in 1936 where he learned English and drycleaning. He was interned at Topaz, and served as an interpreter in the United States Army in occupied Japan.
Harold was a businessman and owner of Quality Cleaners in Price, for over 30 years. He loved bowling, playing cards, golfing and most of all joking with people and creating a laugh.
Survived by wife, Helen Matsuda; sons, David Matsuda, Bryan (Laurel) Matsuda, all of Helper; grandson, Luke, Boulder, Colo.; and granddaughters, Rebecca and Carli, Longmont, Colo. Harold’s kindness, generosity, patience, appreciation, and humor brightened many lives.
Funeral service Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Dick Bedier
GREEN RIVER – Richard Paul Bedier, age 87, passed away Jan. 31, 2003 from congestive heart failure.
Born Sept. 6, 1915 in Chariton, Iowa, to N. Logan and Myrtle Scott Bedier. Married Emma Ross in 1941, later divorced. Married Judith Gardner in 1967, later divorced.
Through the course of his life, Dick was an Army Veteran of World War II, a farmer, construction worker, business owner, father and friend. He was always a hard working man. He enjoyed spending time on the Green River, finding unique rocks, and spending time in his rock quarry. Dick was known to share his opinions and ideas and had a story for every occasion.
Survived by son, Richard Al (Sherrie) Bedier, Las Vegas, Nev.; daughters, Ramona (Paul) Sheehan, Midland, Texas; Beth (Jerry) Mecham, Cleveland; sister, Frances Kleinhoff, Pennsylvania; eight loving grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Paul Logan Bedier; sister, Lucille Heath; and great-grandson, Johnathan.
Graveside service Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1 p.m., Elgin Cemetery, Green River, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Robert Stoiber
PRICE/LA QUINTA, Calif. – Robert Frank Henry Stoiber, age 85, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 in Indio, Calif. after a lengthy battle with kidney disease.
Robert and his wife Dorothy Ann, formerly resided in Sheboygan, Wis. and had relocated to LaQuinta, Calif. just three weeks prior to his death.
Survived by wife, Dorothy Ann Johnston Stoiber of La Quinta, Calif.; two sons, Anthony (Helen) Stoiber of Huntington; Paul (Morena) Stoiber of La Quinta, Calif.; one daughter, Jean (Jack) Graves of Price; sister, Mrs. Rose Aleff of Sheboygan, Wis.; 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grand children. He was preceded in death by three sons, Bobby, Peter and John; and one daughter, Francis Ann.
At his request a private family viewing took place in Indio, Calif. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, with his wife and surviving children present. He was set free of his earthly bonds on Jan. 31 in Indio, Calif. May his soul rest in peace.
Surviving family members wish to thank those who helped with all transitional care while our parents were relocated before Robert’s death. Your kindness and help was greatly appreciated. Surviving family wishes that in lieu of flowers donations be made to local chapters of the American Kidney Diabetes Association.
Amelia Bonacci
EAST CARBON – Our loving wife, mother, sister and “Gramsie”, Amelia Compagni Bonacci, age 79, passed away February 2, 2003 at her home.
She was born April 15, 1923 in Sunnyside, to Ventura and Rosealia Pedetella Compagni. Married Carmin Bonacci Sept. 24, 1940 in Price.
Member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and lifelong resident of East Carbon. Amelia will always be remembered for her excellent cooking and sharing her Italian recipes with family and friends. She had a great love for family and made sure that everyone received a special card on their birthday. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. Amelia will be dearly missed by family and a community of lifelong friends.
Survived by loving husband, Carmin Bonacci, East Carbon; daughters, Diana (Kent) Houghton, Helper; Judy Bonacci, East Carbon; son, Charles Bonacci, West Jordan; four grandchildren, Ron Law, Jennifer Robertson, Jeff and Jerrod Bonacci; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Ventura Compagni Jr., Twin Falls, Idaho; and Frank Compagni, Columbia. Preceded in death by grandson, Cory; daughter-in-law, Kathy Bonacci; sisters, Ida Fratto; Gilda Bergamo, Lola Logston; brothers, Albert and Charlie Compagni.
Funeral Mass Saturday, Feb. 8, 10 a.m., Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service Friday evening, 7 p.m. at the church in East Carbon. Family will be at the church Friday and Saturday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Jonas Shane Lowe
PRICE – Jonas Shane Lowe, infant son of Dr. Bret Kent and Kristen Jenkins Lowe of Price, returned to his Heavenly Father Jan, 27, 2003 in Price.
He is survived by his parents and brothers, Dillon Chad and Cody Bret, all of Price; and grandparents, Dr. Kent C. and Cathy Dee Lowe, Price; and Grant Deane and Katherine Sue Jenkins, Ferron.
Though his time with us was brief, our love for him is forever.
Graveside services were Friday, Jan. 31, in the Cliffview Cemetery in Price.
