A new additon to the Emery County landscape comes with the additon of the Turnquist Cottages in Elmo. Turniquist Cottages, not to be confused with Turnquist Retreat Assisted Living Center, is a senior independent apartment complex located next to Turnquist Retreat in Elmo. This complex is for those 55 years and older and the rent is income based.
Daryl (Butch) and Caleen Wilcox received a $90,000 low interest loan from the Utah Association of Governments to aid in the construction of the new cottages. Tom McCrary, Construction Manager over the Home Replacement projects announced the money was used as the infrastructure for the cottage style retirement center and was used to get the project started. The loan came from Olene Walker’s trust fund, a fund set up for housing projects.
Turnquist Cottages are 14 apartments, each with its own outside and inside entrances.
The apartments are one bedroom with a kitchen and living area. The inside entrance opens into wide, well lit hallways that lead into the commons area. In the commons area, there is ample room for family parties and get-togethers. There is also a kitchen in the commons area for entertaining.
From the commons area or the hallways, a resident can access the outdoor courtyard for a secure outdoor experience.
The Cottages also provide covered parking for tenants personal vehicles.
