Dick Pollard
PRICE – Richard Ray Pollard, age 70, passed away March 9, 2003 in Price.
He was born May 13, 1932 in Carmi, Ill., to Charles and Bonnie Newbe Pollard. Married Lois Wallace June 14, 1953 in Price. She died March 29, 1982.
Member of the Price United Methodist Church and longtime resident of Carbon County. Served in the U.S. Army with the 6th Armored Division. Dick was a well-known and highly respected driller of the discovery well that was brought into the Uintah Basin. He was very proud of his work and he loved serving the oil fields of the Uintah Basin with 42 years of dedicated service. Dick enjoyed going camping with his family and he especially loved “his fishing”. He will be dearly missed by family and many longtime friends.
Survived by daughters, Debbie (Brent) Christiansen, Sandy; Kathy (Brent) Pilling, Price; three grandchildren, Nathan (Jennifer), Michael Ray and Katie Christiansen; two great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Kaden; sister, Mina (Eddie) Ragin, Littleton, Colo.; brothers, Charles “Red” Stum, Branson, Mo.; and J.R. Tulis, Illinois.
Funeral service Thursday, March 13, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Ralph E. (Gene) Fossat
Ralph E. (Gene) Fossat, age 58, passed away March 6, 2003 at his home in Price. He ws born Jan. 15, 1945 in Price to Ralph and Lois C. Draper Fossat. He married Rosalie Ann Pinedo Dec. 18, 1965 in Douglas, Ariz.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War where he received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the LDS Church, United Mine Workers of America and VFW. He loved visits from friends and family, sharing war stories and tales of hunting and fishing trips he cherished throughout his life.
Gene is survived by his loving wife Rose of Price and children Pat Fossat and Carmella and Jeff Winget, all of Cedar City and one granddaughter, Liddie, who he dearly loved. Also survived by his parents of Price and brother Ron and Irene of Idaho, Louie and Kathy of Cedar City and sister Lianne and Mike Milovich of Helper and three special brothers-in-law, Joe, Tony and Marty. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends he leaves behind.
Funeral services were held March 10, 2003 in the Price Sixth Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Cliff View Cemetery in Price under the direction of Fausett Mortuary. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Gene’s name.
Ross J. Anderson
Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather Ross J. Anderson, 86, passed away March 4, 2003 at Castleview Hospital in Price, Utah as the result of a fall and causes incident to age. He was born May 18, 1916 in Castle Dale, Utah to James and Armenta Anderson. Married Norma Bernice Jones Dec. 24, 1941 and later solemnized the marriage in the Manti Temple. They enjoyed 61 years of life together. Dad was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions. He was employed by the WPA and the CCCs. He served four years in the South Pacific during WWII as a tech sergeant and a mechanic crew chief in the Air Force. He was employed for 34 years in the coal mines of Carbon and Emery counties. As a lifelong resident of Castle Dale, Ross, Bernice and their family enjoyed camping and many vacations together. They especially enjoyed the many winters they spent in Yuma, Ariz. and the many friends they made there. Dad, the many fascinating stories of your life’s adventures and mis-adventures will be missed by all of us. You had more adventures in your life than most people could have in three lifetimes.
He is survived by his wife Bernice; children, Loretta (LeRoy) Maxfield of Castle Dale, Kathy (Ken) Stilson of Orangeville, Jim (Kathy) Anderson of Riverton, Don (Camille) Anderson of Sandy. Nineteen grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, a sister Lois Burgess of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dell, sister Jean Fitzgerald and two grandchildren Amy and Will Anderson.
Funeral services were March 8 at the Castle Dale Stake Center. Interment in the Castle Dale City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Edward Elmer Joyner
Edward Elmer Joyner, former coal miner and resident of Huntington; a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away on Feb. 13, 2003 in Logan as a result of cancer.
He was born in Camden, S.C. on June 4, 1938, the third of eight children born to Elmer and Mary Louise Jordan Joyner. He was sealed to Betty June Sanders in the Washington, D.C. Temple in 1978. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions. He had a strong testimony of the gospel and a love of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ed was a graduate of Utah State University in theatre arts. He loved acting, writing, poetry and playing his guitar.
He is survived by his wife Betty; four sons, Glen (Debbie) Joyner, David (Jane) Joyner, Darrell Joyner and Frank (Amber) Joyner; two daughters, Gay Martin and Andrea Hanson; 20 grandchildren, his mother, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services and burial took place in Logan, Utah.

Jay Soderquist
Jay Emil Soderquist, passed away March 5, 2003 due to a prolonged illness.
He was born May 15, 1942 to Dora Mae Shurtleff Soderquist and Emil Alexander Soderquist. Married Marilyn Shaw Sept. 9, 1968, later divorced.
Jay served in the United States Marine Corps, 1963-1967, serving in Vietnam for two years. Jay was employed 22 years by Energy West Mining Division. Jay enjoyed reading, four wheeling in his Jeep, and visiting with John.
Jay is survived by son, John Eric Soderquist, Magna; sisters, Nola Burgess, Provo; Karen Marvin, Salt Lake City; brothers, Dale Soderquist, Doyle Soderquist, both of Salt Lake City; stepchildren, Penny Reece, Ferron; Bill Eden, Price; and Pat Eden, Vernal.
Graveside services Tuesday, March 11, noon, Camp Williams.
