Stacey Jewkes, owner of Jewkes Dance Studio, just completed her 16th season of teaching dance May 3, with the year end show “Do You Believe In Magic?” “Dancing really is magical because of the growth that takes place in each student. Watching the entertaining and graceful performers is very magical,” says Jewkes.
Jewkes Dance Studio offers classes in tumbling, tap, jazz, lyrical, drill, prop, novelty, clogging and hip hop. This year the studio expanded their services by hiring Shannon Erickson who teaches classical ballet. Erickson, a dance scholarship recipient at the University of Utah and Utah State University, graduated with a degree in dance education. Two assistant teachers, Laurel Lemon and Kisty Bowden, are also part of the staff at Jewkes Dance Studio.
Currently there are 65 students at the Jewkes Dance studio ranging in age from three on up to adults. Preschoolers are taught a variety of techniques including ballet, jazz, tap and tumbling. Kindergarten and older classes are also taught a variety of techniques. Classical ballet is taught to students age seven or older, the oldest being the adult ballet class. A real performance treat and crowd-pleaser is the boy’s hip hop class. Students are free to choose how many classes and what techniques they would like to learn. Summer classes will be offered in all techniques and begin June 2. The school year season begins Sept. 15.
In December the Jewkes Dance Studio will be presenting “The Nutcracker.” This is a traditional ballet which tells the story of young Clara who receives an enchanted toy. Stacey Jewkes and Shannon Erickson will combine jazz, tap, lyrical and classical ballet to retell (through dancing) this traditional Christmas story. What is usually a full length ballet will be a new and exciting, must-see event in Emery County. The Jewkes Dance Studio are enthusiastic about the upcoming year.
