Letter to the Editor: San Rafael Swell

By PAUL YOUNG St.George

Dear Editor,
In your Nov. 11, 2002 publication you printed a letter to the editor I submitted titled, “Come Up With a Plan in the Swell.” In that letter to the editor I stated the environmentalists would pick their time and place. They would select a plant, an insect or a bug, you name it. But whatever they choose they will develop the environment around it.
As I wrote in my article an endangered species need not be an animal or fowl. It can be a bug or insect, trash weed will work just as well. They have started their move and they will not stop until every acre is locked away under the Endangered Species Act. And this will definitely and permanently close many roads in the San Rafael.
They have now located the Mussentuchit Gilia in 17 different locations on the western edge of the Swell. Now the question how many thousand acres are they going to request for each location.
I wonder if there is a person in Emery County that has the crust and guts to stand up and demand that the environ’s point out each and every one of those 17 particular locations. Or could it be several patches in the same area only a few yards apart.
Steve Block of the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance states, “It is first and foremost about protecting Utah’s natural heritage, a heritage that is at risk because of off-road vehicles and oil and gas development.” The last four words of Block’s comments causes me to wonder are the environmentalists working in collusion with terrorist organizations determined to make the United States 100 percent dependent on foreign oil.
The environmental groups have appealed virtually every oil and gas drilling lease that has been offered, regardless of its locations. They locked away the Kapairowitz Plateau, our last, largest oil, gas and coal deposit in Utah. And they have never once offered a place where they would allow drilling they would not appeal.
Is it their desire to make the United State 100 percent dependent on foreign oil? Then have the Mid-East stop their importing oil to us, which would bring the U.S. to it knees in a hurry. Is there a possibility we have a cabal correlated group working here? Environmentalists and terrorists in harmony one with the other for the destruction of the United States.
When you evaluate them together, they both hold the same feelings. They do not want the United States to be oil independent. They both hate self enterprise, industry, using our natural resources, freedom of travel, being self independent, virtually everything we love about being a free America, both groups in common hate us.
