Boyd Moosman
WELLINGTON- Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Boydie LaVon Moosman, age 83, passed away June 24, 2003 at his home in Wellington from a long illness.
Born Aug. 28, 1919 in White Rocks to John Henry and Matilda Mariah Boren Moosman. Married Beth Prescott, Sept. 5, 1936 in Vernal.
Boyd attended schools in the Uinta Basin. He loved herding sheep, breaking horses and rodeo.
He served in the US Army during World War II. In 1953, Boyd moved to Carbon County where he went to work at Horse Canyon and was later employed at Plateau Mining for 10 years prior to retiring.
Boyd loved ranching and he worked for Marsing’s Ranch for many years. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will dearly miss him.
Survived by loving wife of 66 years, Beth Moosman, Wellington; five sons and three daughters, Rex (Rosie) Moosman, Cleveland; Ralph (Karen) Moosman, Elmo; Ken (Joni) Moosman, Carbonville; Merlin (Carol) Moosman, Carbonville; Max (Kimberly) Moosman, Miller Creek; Judy Messinger, Kearns; Shirley (Terry) Stansfield, Wellington; Dawn (Gary) Stansfield, Miller Creek; three sisters, Fontella Harvey, LaPoint; Ora Ellingford, Roosevelt; Edna (Bud) Evans, Altamont; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Merlin, Earl, Walt and LeLand Moosman; sisters, Della Wooley, Erma Sessions and Pearl Moosman; son-in-law, Paul Messinger, grandchildren, Travis Moosman, David Fletcher, Chris Stansfield, Shane Stansfield, John Moosman and Kena Adair.
A funeral tribute was June 28, at Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Jack Olson
PRICE-A very special person was taken from us at the prime of his life, Jack Jim Olson, age 42, passed away June 23, 2003 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo.
He was born March 6, 1961 in Price to Willis Olson, Jr. and Alice Jackson. Married Melinda “Mindy” Kessler, July 1, 1983 in Price.
Jack had a personality that was matched by no other and when he laughed, the world laughed with him. His friends and family were very dear to him, and he was the catalyst that held everyone together. Jack’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, camping, and barbecuing for family and friends. He was a truck driver by trade, who loved to travel the country and was an accomplished equipment operator. In his youth he even spent some time in the coal mines and the past couple of years he was unable to work due to both shoulders being reconstructed. Jack will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survived by his wife Mindy Olson, Carbonville; five children, Joe (Kristian) Olson, Ferron, Jimmy Olson, Mandy Olson, Bobby Olson, Tyler Olson, all of Carbonville; father Willis Olson, Jr., Price; brother Willis (Jamie) Olson, Delta, Colo.; in-laws Jackie (Shane) Brown, Lloyd (Helen) Kessler, all of Price; five loving grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Courtney, Kaneisha, Cameron, Caleb; special nieces, Sonja Christy, Amber and Santaria. Jack is also survived by many other loving nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Preceded in death by his mother, Alice Jackson Olson and a grandson Brendan.
Funeral service was held June 27, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Graveside service was held in the Grand Valley Cemetery in Moab.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Jack’s children, C/O Mitchel Funeral Home.
Helga I. Davis
Helga I. Davis passed away in Tulsa, Okla. early Sunday morning June 22, 2003 after a long illness. She was born on Sept. 10, 1943 in Frankfurt, Germany to Erna and Karl Birkenbach. She met Richard B. Davis in Frankfurt while he was serving in the US Army. They married in Germany May 10, 1961. After his oversees tour, Dick was stationed in New York City where Helga proudly became a United States citizen Sept. 3, 1964. After leaving military service they moved to Salt Lake City where they raised two wonderful children. In 1978 they moved to Castle Dale.
Helga shared many recipes with friends she met at the Food Ranch where she worked for many years. She loved most of all her family and friends, and spent many hours in the kitchen cooking for her loved ones. She loved the outdoors and all the family camping trips they took over the years. Teaching her family little sayings in German was always done with a laugh or a smile, and she never forgot to get in the last “love you sweeties.”
Helga is survived by her children, Michael D. Davis and his spouse Angela, Steven B. Davis and his spouse Lori; grandchildren Robert Poper, Stephanie Davis, September Denison, Rachel Davis, Danyail Denison, Christopher Davis, Michael B. Davis, Corey Davis, Joseph Witt, Mathew Witt and Justin Witt; father-in-law Arval Budd Davis; brothers and sisters-in-law Douglas and Diane Davis, Elaine and Glenn Jacobsen, Marilyn and Gary Tueller, Pat and Dennis Dierks and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her grandson Brett Davis, her mother Erna Birkenbach, her father Karl Birenbach, mother-in-law Dorothy M. Davis, and brother Dieter Birkenbach.
A graveside service was held June 28 at the Castle Dale Cemetery. Friends attended a gathering at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale one hour prior to the service.
We will all miss you and will cherish you always.
Dick Schade
WELLINGTON – Charles Dixon Schade, age 61, passed away June 24, 2003 in Price.
Born Oct. 19, 1941 in Price to George R. and Wauneta Wilson Schade. Graduate of El Camino High School in Mountain View, Calif.
Dick honorably served his country for 7.5 years in the U.S. Army, where he was a paratrooper and he was very proud to do so. He served his last tour of duty in Vietnam, where he was awarded the parachutist, expert and sharpshooter badges.
He was a member of VFW Miners Post 2379.
After leaving the service, Dick married his childhood sweetheart, Claudette Jones, on June 9, 1966 in Reno, Nev. After living in California for two years, they returned to their home state of Utah, where he went to work for UMWA Local 8622 at Castle Gate. After his retirement from the mine, Dick continued to work for ECI in Price.
Dick enjoyed camping and hunting with his family. He loved to work and spend time with his boys on their fishing boat, “Shark Bait.” He spent countless hours in his shed tinkering and working on well-planned projects.
Dad would never pass up a good card game or a cold “Bud.” He cherished every moment he spent with his grandkids.
His children will always remember and live by his wise words and loving lectures. We will always hold dear and remember fondly his affectionate “Hey, Babe” when referring to his lifelong love, Claudette.

‘Together forever’
DELTA- Chandra Gale Chapman Callister, 39, passed away June 19, 2003 in Salt Lake City due to complications in childbirth.
Born April 24, 1964 in Price to Spenst Gale and Verna Lou Greenwood Chapman. Married DeeMar Callister Oct.10, 1991 in Manti LDS Temple.
Chandra attended elementary schools in Kemmerer, Wyo., and Huntington. Graduated Emery County High School in 1982. Attended CEU and graduated Snow College and SUSC.
Taught English and drama at Duchesne High School for two years. Teacher at the Delta Middle School for the past 15 years.
Loved her family, her dogs, and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping.
Active in and held various positions in the LDS Church. A loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and teacher.
She thought teaching was a labor of love and referred to her students as her kids.
Chandra is survived by husband, DeeMar Callister; son, DeeJay, and daughter, Chaliece Gale, Delta; parents, Gale and Verna Chapman, Leamington; brother, Gregg (Denise) Chapman, Huntington; sisters, Mary Sue (Gary) Dutson, Lynndyl; Danette (Rick) Houston, Leamington; grandmother, Lenore Chapman, Price; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by three infant brothers.
Chaliece Gale Callister, infant daughter of DeeMar and Chandra Gale Chapman Callister, passed away June 21, 2003 in Leamington.
Born June 17, 2003 in Nephi.
Many family members were able to hold and cherish her until she passed away.
Survived by father, DeeMar, and brother, DeeJay, Delta; grandparents, Gale and Verna Chapman, Leamington; great-grandmother, Lenore Chapman, Price; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were June 24, at the Delta 1st LDS Ward. Interment, Delta Cemetery under the direction of Nickle Mortuary.
Thelma Louise Funcannon
PRICE-Thelma Louise Funcannon, age 91, passed away June 25, in Price. She was born Sept. 19, 1911 in Sunnyside to Jack and Ellen Robb Pessetto. She married Roy Funcannon Oct. 11, 1930 in Price.
She was a member of the LDS Church who loved her family above everything else and by whom she will be deeply missed.
Louise is survived by her children; Donald (LaRae) Funcannon, St. George; Colleen Thompson, Price; David R. Funcannon, Price; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by sister Ivene Anjerverden, Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by her husband Roy, grandson Nick Pappacostas, sisters Zella and Maline and brother Walter.
Graveside services were held Sat. June 28 at 2 p.m. in the at the Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary, where friends called Saturday prior to services.
Don Clair Swasey
DENVER, COLO. -Don Clair Swasey, age 54, passed away on June 21, 2003 at University Hospital in Denver following a massive heart attack.
Don was born on May 6, 1949 in Price to Monte Clair Swasey and Donna LaRene (Behling) Swasey. He was married to Claudia Kay Hall on June 28, 1985 in Moab.
Don was an accomplished artist and silversmith. He owned and operated the High Desert Gift Shop in Moab for over 30 years.
He is survived by wife, Claudia Kay Swasey; father, Monte (Joanna) Swasey, Castle Dale; son, Tyson Swasey; stepchildren, Karena (Chace) Gholson, Moab; Sandra (Guy) Schiebelhut and David Szakala, both of Visalia, Calif.; grandson, Wyatt Gholson, Moab; sister, Elayne (Jed) Cottingham, Arvada, Colo.; brother, Lee Mont Swasey, Ferron; sister, Cindy (Jon) Judd, Castle Dale; nieces, Kelli Hedin Stricker, Jessica Hedin and Rosanne Judd; nephews, Joe and Charles Swasey; Shawn and Alex Judd.
His mother preceded him in death.
Graveside service was June 27, at the Grand Valley Cemetery.
