Honoring A Hero

Sgt. Tom Harrison from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office leads the riderless horse from the arena.

During the grand entry at the San Rafael Pro Rodeo on July 25 and 26, Deputy Jeremiah Johnson was honored.
The rodeo announcer, Randy Schmutz read the tribute, “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight as we celebrate this great rodeo performance, we celebrate it with a bit of sadness. Emery County residents know that you lost one of your heroes when Emery County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremiah Johnson was tragically taken from us in a traffic accident while on duty. Jeremiah served Emery County citizens and the San Rafael Pro Rodeo faithfully for six and a half years.
“Tonight Sgt. Tom Harrison of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office leads an empty saddle over the arena as we pay tribute to a fallen hero.
“Jeremiah, we know you are watching over us tonight and we miss you.”
At the Saturday rodeo, Jeremiah’s father, Randy Johnson sang the National Anthem.
During the rodeo the Johnson children, Trevor, Noah and Sydney were presented with silver spurs, autographed by the cowboys and cowgirls participating in the rodeo.
Deputy Johnson is one of many officers from the Emery County Sheriff’s Office that help with the rodeo each year.
A song was played and then Sgt. Harrison led the riderless horse from the arena.
