Holiday Lights at Thanksgiving Point


Thanksgiving Point is starting a new holiday tradtion this year. Bring your family to this unique drive through display of more than one million lights in five different holiday themes. Historical Society Harvest Ball


Emery County Historical Society will host a November Harvest Ball at the Museum of the San Rafael at 7 p.m. Montell Seely will be teaching square dance and Virginia reel dances. Refreshments will be served.

Remembering White Canyon


Remembering the little town at the bottom of Lake Powell will be the topic of a free lecture by Tom McCourt, local author. The lecture and book signing will be Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the CEU Prehistoric Museum. For more information contact Castle Country Regional Information Center at 637-5060.

Emery High Musical


The Emery High Drama department will present Damn Yankees, a musical play on Nov. 20-22 in the school auditorium. Shows will begin at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased in advance from students or the night of the performance at the door.

Castle Valley Archaeological Society


Ron Rood, assistant state archaeologist, will present a lecture entitled How to Set a Table in 10,000 BC at the CEU Prehistoric Museum on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. The lecture is sponsored by the Utah Humanities Council and hosted by the Castle Valley Archaeological Society. Junior Jazz Sign Ups


Sign ups for Junior Jazz will be held at Huntington Elementary Nov. 19 from 5:30-7 p.m. and in Castle Dale at the Emery County Recreation building on Nov. 29 from 5:30-7 p.m. For more information call 748-2235.

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department Service Office will be at the Price Workforce Service Center from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Dec. 11 to assist in understanding applying for rightful VA benefits. This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the VFW to qualify for assistance.

Festival of Trees


The Festival of Trees which benefits Primary Children’s Medical Center will be held Dec. 3-6 at the Southtowne Expo Center in Salt Lake City. The festival will run from 10 a.m-10 p.m. daily. There will be many displays including trees, wreaths and crafts. There will also be entertainment and food items available.

Christmas Tree Permits


The Bureau of Land Management Price Field Office, 125, South 600 West, will sell Christmas tree tags from Nov. 24-Dec. 24. Office hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Only one tage will be sold per family. Complete names and addresses will be needed for each tag. Up to three tags may be picked up for family members, but each will require complete names and addresses.

Bookcliff Muzzleloaders Meat Shoot


The annual meat shoot sponsored by the Bookcliff Muzzleloaders will be held Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. It will be held at Pinnacle Peak Range in Price. Sam’s famous homemade chili will be served free. Targets for women, juniors and men.

Riders for Santa


Riders for Santa will again be holding the toy ride for the children of Emery County. The ride will be Dec. 6 with riders meeting at Stewart’s parking lot in Castle Dale. Ride will begin at 11 a.m and continue to Orangeville for lunch. Everyone is reminded to bring a toy for the donation and a pot luck dish for the lunch. Women’s Volleyball


Women’s Volleyball will start on Jan. 7, 2004. If you have a team contact Larraine Pierce at 687-9795 or Karl Jensen at 653-2770. Deposits must be made by Dec. 4 to hold a place on the schedule. A meeting will be held at the Huntington Library on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. to discuss the rules and how the league will run. Every team must have a representative at this meeting. Many issues concerning the league will be discussed and decided.

H.E.A.T.

Bread and Soup Night


College of Eastern Utah will host Bread and Soup Night every Monday night through November from 5-6:30 p.m. Proceeds will go to the Carbon County Food Bank. The event will be held in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center.

Food Handler’s Classes

Anti-Tobacco Advocacy


Utah’s youth anti-tobacco advocacy group, the Phoenix Alliance, encourages youth to fight big tobacco by entering the seventh annual Truth From Youth Anti-Tobacco Advertising contest. Entries are grouped in elementary, junior and senior high categories with cash prizes. Contest deadine is March 22, 2004. Create anti-tobacco radio, TV or billboard ads to enter. Salvation Army


Donations are needed from Emery County residents to the Emery Chapter of the Salvation Army which provides emergency assistance for the people of Emery County as well as people traveling through the area. Downpayment Initiative


The Homeownership Challenge is to increase minority homeownership by 5.5 million by the end of the decade. The American Dream Downpayment Initiative made significant progress as the US House of Representatives passed a $400 million bill to assist 80,000 low income families to become homeowners. DUP Afghan and CD


The Old Mill Camp of the DUP is offering a unique collection of over 200 pictures on CD. There are group pictures and pictures of past and present buildings in Ferron. The CD is being pre-sold to help raise money for the publishing of the book. Can be used as a screen saver or viewed as a picture album. The Old Mill Camp also has an afghan for sale. Castle Dale Library Story Time


Story Time for pre-schoolers will be held every Friday at 11 a.m. Will be held every Friday except. Nov. 28, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.

Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that they may be eligible to receive an electric wheelchair or power scooter, paid for by Medicare, if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a manual wheelchair. Recreation Center Open Night

DUP Holiday Social


Emery County Company of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers will hold their Holiday Social on December 1, at 12:30 p.m. at the Castle Dale Senior Center, Castle Dale, UT. Luncheon will be provided.
