Harriet’s World

By HARRIET BISHOP

Well, here it is. Now the Christmas season officially starts. Time to get out the Christmas decorations. I watched people start this year before Thanksgiving had even started. I don’t know about you people, but I usually use the Thanksgiving holiday to get my Christmas decorations out and up. Starting with the Christmas lights outside. Usually my son and daughter-in-law put up my outside lights when they come for Thanksgiving. On the years that they do not come for Thanksgiving I have my neighbors help me.
Well this year, as you all know, my good neighbors have moved and I find myself in a bind as to who is going to get the honor. I am sure every one of my friends and neighbors is waiting with bated breath.
As I watched out my window this last weekend I saw some interesting things going on around the neighborhood. We had beautiful weather and people seemed to be out in full force putting up their Christmas lights. I saw a man on top of his roof doing a dance. Kicking his feet up in the air and waving his arms around. I had never quite seen such a dance so as I looked a little closer I saw a bunch of Christmas lights laying on the roof and the man was actually kicking at the lights and seemed to be yelling something along with the dance. I wish I could have heard what a lovely Christmas song he must have been singing as the lights accidentally fell off the roof.
I saw a lady standing on the tip top of a ladder, reaching as far as she could to the top of a tree as she wound around the lights. Then I realized she was taking the lights off the tree. She seemed to be having a bit of trouble. The ladder was about to tip over and I sure hope her friend got to her before the ladder hit the bushes. It was out of my view a little so I am not sure whether he did or not.
I saw a teenage boy holding on to the heels of his little brother as he dangled him down from the top of the roof to drape some lights on the edge of the house. It looked like a lot of fun but the little boy didn’t seem to be having that much fun. His face was all red and scrunched up and he looked really frightened. His brother kept yelling directions at him so I am sure he was able to complete the job.
I saw a husband and wife running around the yard as they placed Christmas figures in various spots on the lawn. The woman seemed to be having the time of her life. The man didn’t seem to be so happy as she yelled at him. She couldn’t seem to make up her mind where everything should go. I wish I could have heard what he was saying to her.
As I watched this great panorama going on before my eyes I realized that it wouldn’t be hard to find someone to help me with my Christmas lights. I am sure my friends and neighbors will just be delighted when I ask them to help me. I will actually be doing them a favor. I’ll bet they are standing by the phone waiting for it to ring.
Well, that is my world. Until next time remember, “Always use the word impossible with the greatest of caution.”
