A Huntington firefighter sprays the hot spots.

With the spring weather comes the fire season and Emery County has been flaming. There have been several recent fires including one on Bott Lane, one in Ferron, one on farm in Elmo, a brush fire in Green River, house fire in Castle Dale and a field fire in Huntington that threatened a house.
The open burn season in the cities began on March 27 and will continue through May 2. Each of the communities have their own set of rules governing burning, but most require obtaining a burn permit. The fire departments in each of the communities like to know when and where a burn is taking place so they can be on the alert should the blaze become out of control.
Children playing with matches in the Huntington fire is believed to have started the blaze which blackened a nearby field and hillside. The fire threatened the home of Nancy Martinez and blackened the retaining wall in the backyard of the home.
The Hayward home in Castle Dale also suffered damages in a fire.
