Chandler Pearson puts the tag on the runner.

The Emery Spartan boys baseball team won their 2nd region contest last week with a 3-2 decision that went into extra innings. The Spartans won in the bottom of the 9th inning as the Delta pitcher walked in the winning run.
Chandler Pearson, who pitched a great game against Lehi last week, struck out 13 Rabbits in the 7 innings he worked this week. Bowie Jeffs pitched in relief the last 2 innings and picked up the victory.
Pearson started strong with 8 strikeouts in the first 3 innings. In the 6th inning, three Emery errors lead to the first Delta run as they tied up the game at 1-1. In the 7th inning, two Delta hits, a walk and an error led to another run but Emery’s defense got the last out as Delta had the bases loaded. The game was now tied at 2-2.
Jeffs allowed a single to start the 9th inning before Josh Eden at 3rd base fielded a grounder and got the out at 1st base and then Eden caught a fly for the 2nd out. Jeffs then struck out the last batter on 3 pitches.
Wes Baletka singled in the 4th inning and scored on a Pearson double to left center field to give Emery its first run and the lead. Baletka singled again in the 6th inning, stole 2nd and 3rd bases and scored again on another Pearson hit.
Emery’s last run came in the 9th inning. Daniel Luke opened with a walk, Chandler Tanner got aboard via an error by the first baseman that put Emery runners at 2nd and 3rd bases with no outs. Brady Larsen was intentionally walked to load the bases. Conlee Luke worked the count to 3-2 before the Delta pitcher threw another ball to walk in the winning run. Emery had won the long lasting game 3-2 and took their region record to 2-1. They play at North Sanpete on April 6 in their next contest.
