During a recent Clawson Town Council meeting, a concerned resident told the council about some problems with water bills and water pressure in the town. The first concern was with the classification of billings. It was stated that the connection at the farm of this citizen is billed as a livestock connection, but the resident is paying culinary water rates on the base amount of 10,000 gallons of water per month.
During the last year, the resident had stock at the farm during the winter months only and used a total of 2,000 gallons for the entire year. The council acknowledged the situation and promised to investigate as to what could be done. Mayor Carey Bloomer said she would talk with the other residents who have similar hookups and ask them their feelings on the matter. The Mayor will have a remedy to this problem as soon as possible.
The next concern brought by this resident was the secondary water pressure on the upper end of town. It was stated that with the watering restriction, the residents can only water two days a week. With this regulation, everyone in town is using the water on the same days and the pressure on the upper end of town is not enough to run a sprinkler. The council approved to separate the town in two sections and allow watering on different days as a temporary solution.
Councilman Clay Gasser informed the council that while he was attending an Emery County Recreation Board meeting, he requested some of the tables being removed from Bear Creek Campground. These tables are being replaced with new aluminum tables.
The tables being removed need some major repair. Gasser said the recreation board had approved his request.
Mayor Bloomer then read an agreement with Questar stating that any digging or construction that is being done must first be approved by the town, who will in turn notify Questar.
Bloomer also informed the council of the problems with the computers in town hall. The council approved to replace one computer now and the second computer at a later date.
The council appointed Councilman Gerry Hatch to set up and man the Clawson Town booth at the Emery County Fair. Also, Gov. Olene Walker has requested of the towns in Utah to designate June 12-19 as Utah Military Appreciation Week. The council approved the designation.
Mayor Bloomer handed out the tentative budget for the upcoming year. She explained that the Utah State Auditor had made a visit to Clawson and was very informative and helpful in the process of setting up the budget.
The council was given instructions to study the budget and that it would need to be finalized soon.
Councilman Jerry Price, who is organizing the Clawson Town Picnic announced the date for the celebration.
It will be held July 3. The activities will be basically the same as in past years and this year they will honor the military.
The council then approved to appoint Larry Cook to work with Ferron Irrigation Company concerning the placement of the settling pond that will be constructed in conjunction with the new sprinkling system.
Clawson Town Council will meet again on June 16 at 6 p.m.
