Letter to the Editor: RS-2477 Hearing

By MARK H. WILLIAMS Castle Dale

Dear Editor,
As it is of such extreme importance in Utah, I thought it would be a good idea to let everyone know that Rep. Richard Pombo, R-California, Chairman of the Resources Committee, has scheduled a June 28 hearing in St. George on the issue of rural roads crossing public lands, otherwise known as the RS-2477 road issue. It will be held at 9 a.m. in the Dixie Center.
Because of the effect these roads in question have on the future of multiple use in Emery County, I am sure that our County Commissioners (the only representatives we have to fight for our rights) will be attending this hearing.
The Sunday, June 20, 2004 Salt Lake Tribune, has a good article written by Bill Howell who is director of the Southeast Association of Local Governments based in Price that addresses the RS-2477 road issue. His assessments of the situation and the points he covers are very enlightening. Mr. Howell will be testifying at the hearing.
