Emery History Book


Emery History Books have arrived, just in time for the Pioneer Day celebration. These books are an exact reproduction fo the original history book printed in 1981. Books may be purchased at Emery Town Hall or the book can be mailed out. All proceeds will go toward the restoration of the old Emery Church. Cleveland Days Bike Ride


Cleveland Days bike ride will be held July 22 at the Cleveland City Park. Come early, registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Three Rides: 10 miles, 20 miles, or sidewalk ride, this is not a race. No registration fee. Helmets are required. Sponsored by Cleveland City, promoted by MECCA. A Mountain bike will be given away. Free root beer floats and guided rides. Special Needs Swim Program


Registration will be held July 14 from 2-5 p.m. at the Emery County Recreation office for Children with Special Needs Swim Program. The program will run from July 19-23 at 7 p.m. for one hour each day. This program is for children who are physically or mentally challenged. Your child must qualify to participate in this program. Food Handlers Class


The Southeastern Utah District Health Department will be conducting two food handler’s workshops on July 15. Both will be at the health department office at 25 West Main Street in Castle Dale. Veterans Golden Age Games


The Veterans Golden Age Games will take place in the San Joaquin Valley, Calif. on July 18-23. This is the nations largest sporting event for senior military veterans. For more information go to www.va.gov/vetevent/gag/2004.

Combined Class Reunion


The graduating classes of ’67, ’68, ’69, ’70 and ’71 will meet Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Emery High School Lunchroom. Those attending are asked to bring a treat to share or a small fee. Emery County Fair-Building Bridges


This years Emery County Fair will include many fun demonstrations. A schedule will be posted on the outside of the fair building as well as at each demonstration area with the topic and time. Some of the fun things that will be a part of this events are: scrapbooking classes all day; classes in family history; the internet and genealogy; cooking classes, a quilt block demonstration; fly-tying; sculpture; watercolors; digital camera operation; and pottery. These and many more will be demonstrated during the four day fair. If you have any suggestions of things you would like to see or would like to see demonstrated, call Bernice at 653-2212.

Memorial Plaque Fund Raiser


A fund raiser is being held for Cemetery Memorial Plaques for each of the cemeteries. Donations can be sent to PO Box 126, Cleveland, UT 84518.

Old Fashioned Bazaar

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, department service office, will be in the area to assist in understanding and applying for rightful benefits, on July 15 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Price Workforce Service Center.

Sustainable Agriculture Research Grants Available


The latest round of funding from the Western Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program will soon be disbursed. Western SARE farmer/rancher grant proposals are due Oct 1 and professional development program proposals are due Oct. 15. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Those interested in volunteering should contact Kerrie, the CASA coordinator at 435-381-5595.

Joseph Venus Art Exhibit


Utah artist, Joseph Venus’ art will be on exhibit at the College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Art Museum, 155 East Main in Price, during the months of July and August.

Castle Dale Library Story Time


Discover new trails at your library is the theme for story time. Story time at the Castle Dale Library is 11 a.m on Tuesday. Come in and register for reading time, set your own goal to read for prizes. Participate in fun games and activities.

Operation Home Support


Ferron Post and Unit #42 of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary is accepting donations to be sent to local service men and women. Emery History Book


Emery Town is republishing the original Emery History Book. This book is being reproduced exactly as it was with no changes. New Category for Emery County Fair Entries


Scrapbooking is the new category for the Emery County Fair this year. Pull out your best pages to enter into the competition, or better still, you have some time left to construct pages for judging. There will be five days of scrapbook demonstrations held at the county recreation building, If you are interested in presenting a demonstration, contact Jerilyn Mathis at 381-2554 (work) or 381-2466 (home) for further information.

Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Eyeglasses for Lions Club


The Huntington Lions Club is gathering used eyeglasses to be distributed to needy people in Third World countries. There is a special need for childrens glasses. For more information, contact Judy Lang at 687-5349.

ATV Fun Run


As a part of the Emery Town Reunion there will be an ATV Fun Run on July 23. Registratoin will begin at 6 p.m. at the Emery City Park. Habitat Bicycle Challenge


The Habitat for Humanity Bicycle Challenge will be traveling through Green River on July 16. The cyclists will stop overnight at the Green River Community Center. That evening they will host a youth bicycle rodeo and all local youth are encouraged to bring your bikes and join the fun. It will begin at 6 p.m.

Castle Dale Stake July 24 Celebration


Everyone is welcome to join the July 24 celebration. Acitivites will begin with flag ceremonies at 6:45 a.m. in Castle Dale and Orangeville city parks. Breakfast will be served in each park beginning at 7 a.m. Dinner will be held at the Castle Dale rodeo grounds at 6 p.m., for a small fee. Fireworks will begin at dark.

Educational Opportunity Center


The College of Eastern Utah has a new Educational Opportunity Center serving Carbon and Emery Counties. The program is designed to assist adults who would like to start into a college of their choice. The Educational Opportunity Center can assist students with a variety of services including financial aid applications, college course selection and completing their GEDs, if needed. It is a free service and targets low income and first generation students. If you would like to start college in the fall, now is the time to get started. The Educational Opportunity Center is located in the Jennifer Leavitt Building CEU – Room 213. Feel free to walk in without an appointment or call Shawnee at 613-5243. During the summer the center will be closed on Fridays.

FSA Elections


Farm Service Agency county committee election are coming up. Nominations are requested by July 15, the last day to file nomination forms is Sept. 3, and the last day to return ballots is Dec. 6.

ABC television is looking to remodel the home of a Native American family for its popular TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. If you or someone you know has a home on a reservation that is between 1,200-2,000 square feet and with a decent sized yard, notify the casting department by July 14. In recent years, the number of car donation organizations has increased dramatically. Publication 4303, A Donor’s Guide to Car Donations, provides descriptions of several different car donation programs, filing and disclosure requirements for charities operating these programs and related information. Spiderman Coloring Contest


The Spiderman Coloring Contest for the Emery County Fair has been expanded to all elementary age groups. For entry forms and rules, call 687-2403. All posters of Spiderman need to be turned in by July 15 to qualify for prizes. Several prizes in each age group will be awarded. Winners will receive day passes to the fair carnival, lamb fry tickets and Spiderman gifts.
