Brenda Bingham, city recorder, swears in Gil Bowden as the mayor of Ferron.

Gil Bowden was sworn in as Ferron City’s new mayor on Sept. 23 at the city council meeting. Jo Sansevero has been serving as mayor pro tem since Mayor Kent Larsen resigned last month. Bowden, while still learning the ropes, was active and eager to get public opinion on the Peach Days celebration and other recent events.
Ferron will also be starting a new tradition this year. At the open house for the new fire station, Ferron City will be selling a limited number of collector’s pins. They will display a picture of the fire station with the date Oct. 8, 2004. They have only ordered 500 of these pins. Next year they plan to have pins in honor of the 100th anniversary of the horse races in Peach Days.
The Fire Station Open House will be on Oct. 8 from 6-8 p.m. There will be station tours, activities and demonstrations. There will be refreshments and door prizes.
