Christmas is a wonderful time of the year to spend with the ones you love and to enjoy the festivities and holiday cheer. Being away from home over the holidays can be a very difficult and lonely experience. Patients at the Utah State Hospital can enjoy the holidays through the kindness and concern of people in the community through the Forgotten Patient Christmas Project. The Forgotten Patient Christmas Project recruits volunteers to provide gifts for patients that would otherwise receive little or nothing during the holidays. Sponsors are given the name(s) of someone between the ages of 6 and 90 for which to provide Christmas. Information about the person is sent to the sponsor including age, clothing sizes, hobbies, interests, favorite candy, etc. The sponsors wrap and label the packages and deliver them to the hospital prior to Christmas.
There are other ways that individuals or groups can help other than sponsoring a patient. Donations in case or generic items (socks, underwear, deodorant, brushes, candy, etc.) are also appreciated. Groups for caroling or parties are always welcome.
The Forgotten Patient Christmas Project is often the only touch of the holiday season that some of these people experience. Please feel the spirit giving and sponsor a forgotten patient. A box for donations will also be available at the Emery County Progress newspaper office at 410 East Main in Castle Dale. You may drop donations off during regular business hours.
