Learning to use the fire extinquishers is part of the training.

Green River’s Citizen Corps Council has completed its first CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Training. Under the direction of Tamara Ekker CERT Trainer and Karen Smith CERT Coordinator 13 individuals completed the first 20 hour CERT Training. They are; Mary Wilmarth, Charolotte Uptain, Rita Jewkes, Connie Copenhaver, Loni Meadows, Conae Black, Roy Pflander, Fran and Shannon Sweeten, Julie and Stu Steuer. We worked very hard to complete these 20 hours in four days. Thank you each and every one of you for such dedication and willingness to volunteer this time to make our Community more prepared for a disaster. Remember it’s not if there’s a disaster, it’s when a disaster happens, are you ready? This CERT Team will continue to meet once a month to keep skills up and to stay current with what is happening in disaster preparedness.

Rescuers learn about the new fire suppressant.

Classes given were: Unit 1 Disaster Preparedness Unit 2 Fire Safety Unit 3 Disaster Medical – Part 1 Unit 4 Disaster Medical – Part 2 Unit 6 CERT Operations Unit 7 Disaster Psychology Unit 5 Light Search & Rescue Unit 8 Terrorism and CERT Unit 9 Course Review & Disaster Simulation 20 hours.
The next CERT Classes will start in January, they will be every Tuesday afternoon, and a schedule will be out soon. Call Karen Smith 564-3448 or Tamara Ekker 564-8221 to sign up.
