Garrett Conover recently passed his P.O.S.T. which is, police officers standards and training. He and several members of the Emery County Sheriff’s Office were on hand at the graduation ceremony. Emery County Sheriff Lamar Guymon presented Conover with his peace officers certification.
Conover said the training included: firearms training, emergency vehicle operation, field sobriety, radar, accident scene investigation and six weeks of training on law. The P.O.S.T. training is an extensive 17 week course.
Conover said they had to be able to run a mile and a half in 12 minutes and 12 seconds and do 40 situps in a minute and 35 pushups in a minute. They also have to be able to do a stretch of 19 inches past their feet while sitting down. Conover attended classes during the week and came home on the weekends.
“We went and trained at the state fair park where they had crime scenes setup which we had to work through. They called this training a day in the life,” said Conover. They had a test after each training and a final test which incorporates all they have learned. They also learned self defense and defensive tactics. Conover is still working in the jail and is out on patrol two days a week for training.
Conover is married to Tiffany Truman Conover.
