Darrin Winn tries to put up a shot amid a sea of opposition.

The Emery High School Lady Spartans left for the Holidays with an 8-2 record in this basketball season. Emery defeated Tooele 77-41 and Snow Canyon 55-44 before losing to Pine View 63-43.
Against the Buffaloes, Emery simply manhandled their opponent all game long, as they were too much, too fast and too good with great defense on this day. They seemed to be able to steal the ball at will, especially in the first half of the ballgame.
Emery outscored Tooele 23-10 in the opening quarter as six different Spartans scored paced by Natalee Hanson’s 6 points. Emery outscored Tooele 21-9 in the second quarter to take a 44-19 half time lead as Alexis Swasey’s 9 points paced Emery.
Emery dominated the third quarter 21-4 before closing the game out with a 36- point victory. Four Spartans finished in double figures led by Swasey with 19, Camille Fehlberg with 13, Hanson with 12 and Callie Seeley with 10 points.
Also scoring for the Spartans were Shayla Pitchforth with 7, Meagan Pearson with 6, Jodie Lundell with 3, Tahna Merrill, Rachel Rasmussen and Tracy Norton with 2 each and Shalae Cox with 1 point.
Emery then traveled to St George to play Snow Canyon at Dixie State College. Emery outscored Snow Canyon in every quarter to come home with an 11-point victory.
Natalee led the balanced scoring from the Spartans with 14 points followed by Shayla and Camille with 12 points each and Alexis with 11. Ashley Hansen had 6 points in the contest. Emery had 19 baskets to Snow Canyon’s 14 but were outscored from the free throw line by 2 at 16-14.
Emery came home to host the 5-3 Pine View Panthers the day school got out and according to one anonymous player “we were slow getting going today.” Emery was outscored 15-4 in the opening quarter and never seemed able to recover as they took their second loss of the season. Pine View hit 6 3-pointers to aid in the victory.
Emery was led by Natalee’s 15 points and was backed up by Alexis’ 11 points and Ashley’s 10 points. Also scoring were Camille with 3, Callie with 2 and Jodie and Shayla with 1 each.
Emery will be back in action on Jan. 2005 as they will host Uintah in the Spartan Center.
