AARP Driver Safety Class


An AARP driver safety class will be held on April 21-22 at the Carbon Senior Center. The eight hour course will be taught from 1:30-5:30 p.m. each day. Defensive driving techniques, how to adjust your driving to age related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time and much more will be taught. Most insurance companies will give a rate discount to those 55 or older who complete this class. There will be no test given. There is a minimal charge for the course. Bookcliff Muzzleloaders Spring Shoot


The Bookcliff Muzzleloaders will host their spring shoot in the Buckhorn Draw on April 29-30 and May 1. Events will begin Friday at 6 p.m. For more information contact Brandy at 435-472-8668 or Darwon at 435-472-3497.

Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be in Price at the Workforce Service Center on April 28 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. to assist in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits. This is a free service.

Emery High Spring Concert


The Emery High School Spring Concert will be held on April 14 in the auditorium at 7 p.m. The concert will feature the high school concert band, and Castle Dale and Cottonwood sixth grade beginning band.

Diesel Exhaust Health Effects


An educational program for miners and their families concerning the health effects of exposure to diesel exhaust and dust will be held April 14 at the Atrium in the Southeast Applied Technology College in Price from 6-8:30 p.m. The program is sponsored by Miners Hospital, University of Utah Health System, and the Southeast Applied Technology College mining department.

Ferron Fireside


T-Minus-5 vocal band will be the guests at a fireside sponsored by the Ferron LDS Stake Youth Committee. The fireside will be held at the Ferron LDS Church on the hill on April 17 at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Emery County Republicans


The Emery County Republican Organizing Convention will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center located at 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale on April 23, which will begin promptly at 7 p.m. All Emery Republican delegates must have a picture ID to receive credentials and a ballot. Delegate registration will begin at 6:15 p.m. and must be registered 15 minutes prior to the convening of the convention. Only elected county delegates are allowed to vote on issues. A new Constitution and Bylaws will be discussed and voted upon. All Emery County residents are welcome to attend. State Republican officers will address the convention.

Castle Country Spring Festival


The Castle Country Spring Festival arts and crafts fair will be held April 29-30 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Friday from 1-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. There will be entertainment, food, door prizes, $50 giveaway, handcrafted items, candles, scrapbook supplies and much, much more.

April is Immunization Month


Check your child’s records to see if they are due vaccinations. The SouthEastern Utah District Health Department will have a special immunization day on April 25 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. There will be prizes given to those children receiving immunizations on that day. Children must have medicaid, CHIP, PEHP, or have insurances that do not cover immunizations to be given vaccines through the health department.

Free Screening


Free child development screenings will be held for children 5 or younger at the Public Health Office, 25 West Main Street, Castle Dale, on April 21 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Call Michelle at 381-2693 to schedule and appointment or for further information. Bring the child’s birth certificate and immunization record to your appointment. Sponsored by Baby Watch/Early Intervention Program, Emery School District Preschool, and Head Start, for possible admission/enrollment into any of the available programs or preschools.

Aluminum Can Drive


Once again, Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country is conducting an aluminum can recycle drive through April. Cans may be dropped off at Price Metal Salvage, 510 East 1250 South, 637-8609, or leave a message for pick up at 636-3230, or call Sylvia at 687-9184. Recycled cans help build homes and lives in both counties.

Craft and Merchandise Vendors Wanted


Vendors wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 4-6. Large crowds expected. Security will be provided 24 hours a day, so daily load out is not required. New booth configuration for fair this year. We will try to be very accommodating to your needs. Booth assignments will be on a first come, first serve basis. Food Vendors Wanted


Vendors are wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 4-6. Looking for exclusive food concession vendors. Each vendor may apply to have two exclusive entree food items for their booth. That vendor will be the sole supplier of those two food items. Drinks, candy, etc. will be available to all vendors. Emery County citizens will be given until April 22 to apply for exclusive rights on food concessions. Booth assignments will be on a first come, first serve basis. Heritage Days Rodeo Queen


The Huntington Heritage Days rodeo queen competition will be held on April 30. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and competition will begin at 9 a.m. The contest will be held in the Huntington rodeo arena, and is open to girls, ages 9 and up in three divisions, from Emery and Carbon counties. Ferron Pee-Wee Baseball Signups


Ferron Pee-Wee baseball signups will be held April 16 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Ferron City Hall. This is for boys and girls ages 4-7. Due to ordering uniforms, late signups cannot be accepted after April 14. For more information call McCall Fuller at 384-3145 or 749-1637.

Mountain Bike Festival

Youth Leadership Summit


The summit is planned for April 16 from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. There will be workshops, a keynote speaker, and entertainment. Preregister with your youth city council representative, and the summit will be held at the LDS Church on the hill in Ferron.

Workshop for Green River Youth


Attention Green River youth, ages 14-21, who are seeking skills for high school completion, post secondary education, advanced training, and employment. A workshop is planned for April 14 at Green River High School, room 126, from 2-3 p.m., and in the Green River City council chambers at 6 p.m. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Paint Out Winner


Emery County artist Jo Baxter, of Green River, winner of the Western Paint Out held in conjunction with the Emery County fair last summer, was awarded a one woman show at the Museum of the San Rafael in Castle Dale. Her exhibit will be on display through April.

Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

Millions of dollars are available to students from private sector scholarships, and much of this goes unused because the parents and students do not know how or where to apply. Huntington Open Burn Period


Huntington City’s open burn period will run until April 24. Burn permits are required, pick them up at city hall. Burning must be done between 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Cost to extinguished fires and fines may be imposed. Burning of vegetation that is incident to yard clean-up may be burned, no trash or garbage may be burned.

Cleveland Burn Window


Cleveland’s burn window is until April 24. Cleveland Town requires everyone who plans a controlled burn to obtain a burn permit from the town hall, 653-2310 or from Greg Oliver 653-2809. This includes yard waste. No fee required for burn permit.

Aron Ralston to Speak in Emery County


Aron Ralston, the climber who lost an arm in a climbing incident in the San Rafael, will be at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum on April 25 at 9:30 a.m. He will then travel to the Emery High School auditorium for another appearance at 1:30 p.m. He will be speaking about his new book, Between a Rock and a Hard Place. This event is sponsored by the Emery County Sheriff’s Office and the Emery County School District. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Utah Humanities Council Road Scholar


Requesting a free speaker from the Utah Humanities Council is easy. Log on to www.utahhumanities.org/programs at least one month prior to the proposed event and complete the request form. Following the program, an evaluation must be filled out. .

AA and NA Meetings

Emery County Youth Leadership Councils


Emery County Youth Leadership councils are sponsoring a food drive and humanitarian drive to help the Utah Food Bank fill the shelves back up and help those victims of disasters with clothes. This is where we need you. Bring your food items to your city hall or to your elementary school and there you will find a box to drop off your items. This is a service project for our youth leadership conference to be held April 16. We are trying to see which city can collect the most of these items so ready…set…bring on the drive. Help your YCC be the best. This drive will run until April 16. We are hoping to have so much food that the Utah Food Bank has to bring down big trucks to take it back and also that the news stations will have to come to Emery County for our great deed. Give a little…help a little…we need you.

Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Eyeglasses for Lions Club
