Pirates fight for play-offs in baseball

The Green River Pirates baseball team continued their quest for a play-off berth with their third region win in a row. With a victory over Valley, the Pirates kept their hopes alive as they prepare to finish the regular season this week.
Behind the pitching of Kaleb Fail, the Pirates defeated Valley 6-3 last Friday afternoon. Green River scored a single run in the second, third and sixth innings and three runs in the fourth inning while holding Valley to two runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seven th inning. Bigelow and Lucero had doubles in the game for Green River.
On Wednesday of last week, Green River defeated Bryce Valley at Bryce Valley 13-3. Parker Hatt picked up the complete game victory.
The Pirates scored two runs in the first inning, another in the second inning, six more in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth inning. Bryce Valley scored a single run in each of the first three innings. Vetere had a homerun and Fail hit a triple in the game.
On the previous Friday, Green River defeated Escalante 2-1 as the Pirates took advantage of three Escalante errors to win the close game. Hatt also pitched a complete game here to also pick up the victory.
The regular season comes to an end with games this week against Piute and Wayne. With Piute currently in the last play-off spot for the region, a victory over them is a must.
