Ashley Hansen gets ready for the serve and Jalee Jensen is ready to back-up the play.

The 2005 tennis season came to a close last weekend for the Emery High Lady Spartans with the state tournament at BYU. The Spartans finished 10th at the state meet.
Eve Guymon and Callie Seeley had the best tournament for Emery as they lost in the quarterfinals to the team from Pine View High; the eventual state champs in No. 1 doubles. Coach Tom Hansen had this to say, “Callie and Eve caught a bad draw. We caught the best team in the state in the second round and we paid for that. I think they would have beat every other team there.”
Also traveling to Provo and playing were the No. 2 doubles team of Darian Huntsman and Lacey Erickson. The individual players were Jessica Hill at No. 1 singles, Malory Quick at No. 2 singles and Misty Allen at No. 3 singles.
Eve and Callie finished the season as the region champs, only the second time in Emery history that that has occurred. The team itself finished the season in third place in region play behind Juan Diego and North Sanpete.
Looking at the past season, Coach Hansen continued, “It was fun to coach these girls, they are top quality. They all work hard, they are smart and they are fun to be around. I have really enjoyed the season.”
Looking ahead to next season, Coach Hansen is excited because the girls are all back except Callie and Eve. “I think we can have both doubles as region champs next year. We will be better next season, as we will have more experience.”
