The Emery boys cross country team begins the region race at North Sanpete.

The Emery High cross country teams, under the direction of Darrell Gardner and Christy Guymon, have both qualified for the state meet with good finishes at region in Mt Pleasant.
The boy’s team finished fourth, to take the final spot just ahead of Carbon High. Juan Diego Catholic High School, a fairly new school but one that is already established with great runners, finished first in the region meet followed by host North Sanpete. In third place was Delta with 78 points, followed by Emery with 87 points and Carbon with 88 points.

Camille Fehlberg places fourth in the girls.

Jex Jensen finished first for Emery and third overall in the competition. Jex was also selected All-Region and with a 4.0 GPA, was selected Academic All-State.
Finishing second for Emery was Eric Waddoups. Eric ran the best race of his life according to his coach. He, during the season, usually had been around the sixth position in finishing but on this day he really stepped it up with a great time.
McKay Allred, a sophomore from Lawrence, finished third for Emery followed by Blake Jensen and Levi Swasey. Other competitors for Emery were Nick Cox, Kyle Holmes and Mike Justice.
Levi, a runner who usually finished around second place for the Spartans, lost a shoe at the beginning of the race and completed the competition that way. His fifth place finish was just enough to hold off Carbon for the final spot to qualify. His foot was bloody after completing the 5K course. With Levi shod, Emery probably would have finished third and maybe challenged for second place.
The Lady Spartans finished third with 68 points, right behind Juan Diego with 61 points and North Sanpete with 45 points. Delta was fourth and Carbon was fifth. Running her first race of the season and leading the Spartans was Camille Fehlberg, a junior from Huntington. Camille, a starter on the volleyball team and an avid track athlete, finished fourth overall in her debut. Finishing next for Emery was Rebecca Bott followed by Chanie Benson. Ashley Schade, a Canyon View ninth grader, finished fourth followed closely by Brandie Jeffs. Also competing were Leslie Urie and Rebecca Doria. The state meet will be held at SugarHouse Park on Wednesday.
