Green River Halloween Events
On Oct. 28 there will be a family Halloween party at 2 p.m. at the community center (165 South Broadway).On Oct. 29 there will be a Halloween Fun Day Gymkhana at 3383 North Long Street at 9 a.m. On Oct. 31 the Green River Fire Department will be having a Halloween party at the elementary at 4 p.m. There will be a corn maze on Oct. 25-27 at the corn fields behind the West Winds. The cost is $1.50 from 5-7 p.m. and $3.00 from 7-9 p.m.
Ferron Halloween Carnival
On Oct. 29 from 2-5 p.m. in the Ferron Elementary gym there will be a Halloween Carnival. Fun, food and a lot of prizes. Also on Halloween night, Oct. 31 around the elementary school will be a trunk or treat beginning at 5 p.m. Bring your car and a bag of candy and park along the block around the elementary school.
Huntington Elementary Costume Parade
At 1 p.m. on Oct. 31, Halloween the elementary students will parade from the school to Desertview Credit Union and will turn east one block and then south four blocks and up to Main Street and back to the school.
Cottonwood Elementary Trunk or Treat
Will be held on Halloween night from 5:30-6 p.m. There will also be a carnival from 6-7:30 p.m. There will be games, hot dogs, nachos and chili.
Emery County Historical Society
Will present Butch Cassidy and the burial of Joe Walker by the Utah Humanities Council. Speaker Joel Frandsen, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Museum of the San Rafael. All welcome to attend this informative meeting. Next meeting on Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. invite all Veterans to attend. Steve Thornton will present details fo the time he spent in Iraq.
Emery County Gun Club
The Emery County Gun Club is having their grand opening trap shoot on Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at the shooting range next to the Emery County Landfill. Target loads only and shells will be available at the club. For more information call 384-3279, 381-2057, or 384-2319.
Drug Prevention
Come and be informed about the new look of drugs and up-dated local statistics about the increasing use in Emery County. Parents and the community are invited to attend a meeting at the San Rafael Junior High School on Oct. 27 at 6-7 p.m.
First Settlement Day
Huntington City will be holding their first Settlement Day on Oct. 27 at the Senior Citizen Center, 176 West 100 North, at 6 p.m. There will be a spaghetti dinner. The cost is $5 a person or $20 a family up to six members. There will also be entertainment, an auction and a bake sale. Money raised will be used for the Main Street Lighting Project. Cleveland Halloween Carnival
Cleveland will be holding a Halloween Carnival on Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. They will also being doing a trunk or treat at 5:30 p.m. They will be held at the Cleveland Elementary.
Attention All Seniors
There will be a special meeting to discuss the new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. They will be holding a question and answer session with Rebecca Mason the HIP Coordinator with RSVP from Price. It will be on Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Castle Dale Senior Center and Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at the Emery Senior Center. Wetlands Curriculum Workshop
The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources coupled with the Four Corners School of Outdoor Education are offering a one day workshop on Utah’s wetland resources. “Utah’s Wonderful Wetlands” is a curriculum created by UDWR to meet fourth grade science and other core curriculum standards. Defensive Driving Classes
The Utah Safety Council is now offering a four hour defensive driving course. Drivers may complete the course for a 50 point reduction from their Utah driving record. Individuals 55 years of age and older, may qualify for insurance discounts after completing the course. Flu Vaccines
Flu shots will be given daily for high risk individuals at Southeastern Utah District Health Department located at 25 West Main in Castle Dale from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday mornings from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Beginning Oct. 24, flu vaccine will be given to anyone who requests it during the same time period.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is breast cancer awareness month. So if you are 40 or older, get tested. More than 1,000 Utah women will be diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer this year. Veteran’s Widows and Dependents
A field officer form the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., will be here on Oct. 27 at 8:30-10:30 a.m. at the Price Workforce Service Center. He will help assist you in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting application for compensation, pension, hospitalization and other benefits.
Food Handlers Classes
There will be food handlers classses for all persons working in food handling establishments. Classes will be taught in Price on Oct. 25, Nov. 29, and Dec. 29, at 9 a.m. and 4 and 7 p.m., in the Southeastern Utah District Health Department, 28 South 100 East, Price. Holiday Bazaar and Bake Sale

Halloween Party at Castle Dale Senior Center
The Senior Citizen Halloween Party will be held on Oct. 25 at Castle Dale Senior Center at noon. All are encouraged to attend, and come in costume if desired. Along with the party, seniors are encouraged to bring a supply for the Head Start program. Michelle from Head Start will be on hand to accept the donations.
Huntington Elementary Craft Fair
Huntington Elementary will hold its annual craft fair in conjunction with the Pumpkin Walk on Oct. 26 from 1-4 p.m. at the school. Everyone is welcome.
Christmas Festival
A Christmas Festival will be held at the Emery County Recreation Center in Castle Dale on Nov. 4-5. Friday, the action will be from 1-9 p.m., and on Saturday the time is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be crafts, foods, entertainment, and booths. Castle Dale Elementary Workshops
Castle Dale Elementary will be holding workshops for the students to show them that there are better things to do than drugs and violence. They are looking for anybody with talents and ideas to share with the children. The workshops will be on Oct. 28. New Emery County Archives Hours
Emery County Archives now has new hours. The new hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Archives is now under the supervision of the Emery County Recorder and a message may be left at that office at 381-2414.

CASA Volunteers Needed
Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children.
