The Emery High Spardettes, under the direction of Nadene Hinkins, have recently competed in two invitational competitions. Members of the Spardettes are: Jasha Hinkins, Laurel Lemon, Karrie Sharp, Savannah Winn, April Bulkley, Jill Housekeeper, Lacey Branson, Mallorie Mason, Karidon Allred, Shadoe Sitterud and Tarra Tuttle.
On Dec. 3 they competed at Delta High School. They received second place in each of the three divisions of dance, military and novelty routines. The most recent competition was held at Carbon High School on Dec. 17. The Spardettes shined as they received first place in dance, first place in novelty, and second place in military. They also received the sweepstakes award for the most points earned by a drill team during the competition.
Four members of the Spardettes also competed in the solo competition at the Carbon High Invitational-Laurel, Savannah, Jasha and Karidon. Jasha received the second place award for her solo routine. Four Spardettes were also selected during a dance camp held last summer to dance during half-time at a Utah Jazz basketball game. Those selected were Savannah, Jasha, Laurel and Jill. These four Spardettes traveled to Salt Lake City to learn and practice the dance routine with the Utah Jazz dancers prior to the day of the game. They then performed their routine during the Jazz game held at the Delta Center on Nov. 14.
The Spardettes are excited to be hosting the upcoming 3A Region drill team competition at the Spartan Center on Jan. 21, beginning at 5 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Spardettes in this competition. They are also gearing up for the state drill team competition which will be held Jan. 28 at Utah Valley State College in Orem.
Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come and support the Spardettes as they perform their routines during half-time at all of the boys and girls home basketball games in the Spartan Center, and don’t miss the Spring show which will be held later this Spring. They will perform all of their routines which they have learned throughout the year, including the ever popular co-ed dance, the routine they performed at the Stadium of Fire last summer, the Utah Jazz routine, solo performances, and many, many more.
