Members of Shannon Olsen’s second grade class at Castle Dale Elementary.

April 21 was National and Global Youth Service Day. Emery School District decided to focus their efforts on disaster preparedness and emergency response. Youth of the state were encouraged to be involved in service in their communities and academic service learning.
Shannon Olsen’s second grade students at Castle Dale Elementary tied two baby quilts and donated them to the Emery County Sheriff’s Office. The project was headed up by a mother, Megan Burke. The students presented the quilts to Sgt. Martin Wilson on April 27, who thanked the class and told them the quilts would be put to good use.
