Jim Keele teaches the carpentry class each year at Emery High. The open house for the newly completed house was held recently.
Keele said, “This was a very successful and fun year for our Carpentry class. We took first place in the Carpentry event at the TSA competition and the SUU Technology Fair. Several of our Carpentry students earned scholarships to SUU, CEU, and Snow College.
“Approximately 20 different families showed interest in our house. Several of which turned in applications. Based on qualifications, Utah Housing will soon choose who gets to move in.
“This year Taylor Jensen (past carpentry student) helped me teach the class. He did an excellent job and I enjoyed working with him. Next year Travis O’Neil (present carpentry student) will be helping me and I am looking forward to it.
“Several people help make this program successful. I would like to thank the following: everybody at the Emery County School District Office; Emery High School Administration and employees; Magnuson’s Lumber and employees; Emery County School District Maintenance Team; Terry Lofthouse Electric; Dugmore Heating and Cooling; Steve’s Plumbing; Gordon Card; Dell Card; Affordable Flooring; Wall Contractors; Bob Bennett; Bryant Anderson; and Justin Orton.
“Members of this year’s carpentry class are: Jordon Grange, Derek Jensen, Jex Jensen, Tate Jensen, Chad Larsen, Erik Nielsen, Travis O’Neil, Ivan Ortega, Jesse Peacock, James Peterson, and Tyler Tuttle.
“I am very proud of the work my students did on this years house. They had a great time building a quality home,” concluded Keele.
