Kody Clifton Nelson
Kody Clifton Nelson, 31, of Centerfield, Utah, loving father, son, brother, uncle and friend departed from his earthly life into the kind and understanding arms of his Heavenly Father, May 21, 2006.
Kody was born Nov. 9, 1974, in Price, Utah. He was the son of Grant B. and Carolyn L. Nelson of Ferron. He spent his childhood years in Ferron with his five other siblings. Great were the times they had growing up together.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He later moved to Centerfield where he graduated from Gunnison High School. He married Sherri Jean Sharp, Nov. 22, 1997, in Centerfield. They were later divorced.
Kody’s greatest love was for his two sons Dylan (8) and Dayne (5) along with his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Many enjoyable hours were spent hunting and fishing in the mountains of Emery and Sanpete counties.
Lots of satisfaction came from archery shooting and he was teaching his sons the same love for the sport. Time was also spent bird and racoon hunting with his boys and dogs, Jess and Sadie. Oh!, the stories they could tell.
His smile, laughter and loving heart was contagious and brightened the lives of family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Dylan Kody Nelson, and Dayne Loyd Nelson, Centerfield; mother, Carolyn L. (Charles H.) Peterson, Centerfield; father, Grant B. (Sheila) Nelson, Ferron; brothers: Kirk G. Nelson, Centerfield; Kory J. (Mandy) Nelson, Orangeville; sisters: Karen (Gregg) Jones, Soldotna, Alaska; Kolleen (Mike) Roper, Kemmerer, Wyo; Kristie (Chris) Morgan, Ferron; seven nieces and five nephews along with step-family members.
Funeral services were held Tues., May 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Centerfield Second LDS Ward Chapel. Friends called in Centerfield on Monday from 6-8 p.m. and again on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial was in the in the Gunnison City Cemetery. Jesse Arroyo
SUNNYSIDE-Jesse D. Arroyo Sr., age 90, passed away peacefully May 27, 2006 in Price. He was born Nov. 13, 1915 in Penjamo, GTO, Mexico to Dioneicio Veltran and Frances Delgado. He married Mary Barajas, June 15,1940 in Boulder, Colo.
Jesse was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a resident of Sunnyside since 1947, where he later retired from Kaiser Steel Local #9958. He enjoyed being a mechanic, gardening, building model airplanes, doing carpentry work around his home and fixing things for his neighbors.
Jesse had a great love for music and he especially loved playing his guitar and trumpet. For many years while living in Colorado, he enjoyed playing in a band. Jesse had a wonderful sense of humor and he always made everyone feel welcome at his home.
Survived by his loving wife, Mary Arroyo, Sunnyside; three sons, Louis (Carolyn) Arroyo, Salt Lake City, Alex (Sherry) Arroyo, Helper, Dennis Arroyo, Sunnyside; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, many other loving family members and long time friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jesse Arroyo Jr.
Funeral mass was held Wed. May 31, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Vigil service was Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the church in East Carbon. Family was at Good Shepherd Catholic Church Tuesday and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery, under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Erma Lee Alger Weber
Erma Lee Alger Weber, age 80, died May 30, 2006 in Tempe, Ariz., after a short illness. She was born July 30, 1925 in Columbia, Utah to Elna Jensen and Edgar Alger. After her mother’s untimely death, she was reared by her aunt and uncle Merrill and Alda V. Alger of Price. After working in California for Douglas Aircraft during WWII, married Russell Weber in 1953 in Utah. They moved to Arizona in 1957 where she spent more than 20 years in the Comptrollers Office at Arizona State University. She was active in her church, and spent a lifetime of unselfish service to her family and friends. She was a source of humor, encouragement and wisdom to all around her. Lee loved to write and has had some of her stories published.
Erma Lee is survived by her husband, Russell, Arizona; children, Layna (Bill) Bennett, California; Jimmy K. Nolan, Arizona; Randy (Chris) Weber, California; Debbie (Steve) Owens, California; Larry Weber, Arizona; seven grandchildren; sisters, Myrleen (Ray) Sitterud, Orangeville, and Dora (Ray) LaBrecque, Sunset. She is preceded in death by brothers, Van Alger, Harold Alger, Mayo Alger and Jimmy Alger.
Services were held in Tempe on June 3, 2006. Friends and family may celebrate her life at the Cleveland Cemetery on June 7, 2006 at 10 a.m. under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
John Ira Parker
John Ira Parker Sr., 86, passed away on May 25, 2006 in Salt Lake City due to complications of a sudden heart condition.
He was born Oct. 5, 1919 in Chilly, Idaho to Solomon Ellis and Lily Ann White Parker. He grew up in Levinworth and Seattle, Wash. Living during the Great Depression, he was forced to work as a teenager to help support his family.He married Josephine Madeline Brenn on May 31, 1942 in Seattle. They would have celebrated their 64th anniversary this month.
John joined the U.S. Army Air Force in Seattle, and served as a B-24 staff sergeant gunner for the 5th Air force, 43rd Bombardment group, 64th Bombardment Squadron, also known as “Ken’s Men,” in the Southwest Pacific Theater from Sept. 1942 to Sept. 1945, under Gen. George Kenney. During this period, he was awarded the Air Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Bronze Oak-leaf Cluster.
In the late 70’s, they moved to Huntington to be close to their sons and their families. He operated the theater in Huntington for more than two decades. This is where he was residing at the time of his passing.
John is survived by his wife, Josephine Madeline Brenn; eldest son John Ira, Jr. (Shana Le Parker) of Orem, who served as Emery County Commissioner for six years; youngest son, Craig Allen of Huntington; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Solomon Ellis and Lily Ann White Parker; 10 brothers and sisters; and his sons, Van Ellis (Betty Parker), and Mark.
Funeral services were held Thurs., June 1, at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lakeview Eighth Ward Chapel, 155 West 1600 South, Orem, Utah. A viewing preceded the service, beginning at 9:45 a.m.
John received a full-military grave-service and interment at Camp Williams Cemetery, Bluffdale, Utah.
Rick Gutierrez
Rick David Joseph Gutierrez, age 47, died peacefully at home on May 26, 2006 after a long hard battle with diabetes. Ricky was born on Dec. 20, 1958 in Spring Canyon, Utah, to Marie Montoya and Raymond Gutierrez. He married Christine Adair and was later divorced. He was a coal miner and worked for US Fuel Company, Local #6363 in Hiawatha for many years.
Ricky’s special talent and favorite pastime was playing his guitar, which he did so well. He performed for many occasions throughout the years. His dad, Ray Gutierrez, was also a very talented and well know local musician. He taught Ricky to play the guitar at the tender age of only 3 years old. Ricky’s tiny hands weren’t even big enough to wrap around the guitar neck, so he would lay the guitar across his lap and use his thumb to glide it along the top of the guitar’s neck just to play the songs he had learned. He played the guitar like that until he was 10 years old. It was amazing, Ricky’s first public performance with his dad was at the Carbon Country Club. He was only 5 years old at that time.
Regardless if he had a good day or a bad day, he was always there for you, just as we were for him. He always had that special joke just for you. It always made him feel better when he knew he could make you laugh.
Ricky, we’re all going to miss you so much. You were our heart and soul. We love you, and if you can still do it, please take our pain away.
Ricky is survived by his two children, David Gutierrez and Jennifer Gutierrez of Fairview, Okla. Also survived by his mother, Marie Gutierrez, four sisters, three brothers and their spouses: Terri (Stephen) Manzanares, Debbie Madrigal, Judy Hernandez, Rose Marie (Rogelio) Cortez, Steve (Jean) Gutierrez, Paul (Grace) Gutierrez, and Carlos (Erika) Gutierrez; 21 nieces and nephews; and 13 great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Ray Gutierrez, and both sets of grandparents.
We will be honoring Ricky’s wishes to be cremated. His ashes were taken to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for a Holy Rosary which was recited on June 1, 2006 at 7 p.m. Funeral mass followed the next day, Fri. June 2, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Committal at Mountain View Cemetery in Helper, Utah.
Beth Ellis
PRICE-Beth Melba Laursen Ellis, age 86, passed away May 28, 2006 while surrounded by her family at the Heirloom Inn. She was born Jan. 29, 1920 in American Fork, Utah to Edward and Pearl Chipman Laursen. She married Charles L. Ellis Nov. 20, 1941 in Helper; he died Aug. 21. 1990.
Beth graduated from the CEU nursing program in 1968 and later went to work at Carbon Hospital as an LPN. She was actively involved in the Helper Mining Museum where she volunteered every Wednesday. Beth was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Carbonite Ladies, and National Chapeau Passe. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will never be forgotten. Baseball games will never be the same.
“As a granddaughter, I was her pride and joy and she always gave me praise and encouragement,. Grandma Beth loved her great-grandsons with all her heart. She was always so proud of her Little Christopher, and she called him that, even after he grew a foot taller than her. She loved to watch Michael play baseball and she was his greatest fan. We all will miss her beautiful smile.”
Beth is survived by her son, Edward L. (Margaret A.) Ellis, Price; granddaughter, Anna Lee (James) Cordova, Price; great-grandsons, Christopher and Michael Cordova, both of Price; brothers, Edward C. (Vivian) Laursen, Brigham City, and Carl Eugene Laursen, West Valley. Preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; brother, Kenneth Laursen; and sister, Maxine Laursen.
Graveside service was held Thurs. June 1. 2006 at 1 p.m. in the American Fork City Cemetery. Family was at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m.
Kyoko Parsons
PRICE- Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Kyoko Moride Parsons, age 79, passed away May 30 in Price.
Born Sept. 26, 1926 in Hiroshima, Japan and was a survivor of the atomic bomb.
She married Kenneth Brown Parsons in Kobe, Japan on Oct. 2, 1951.
Kay was a great seamstress. She loved her pets, which she had many of. She also loved teaching her grandkids origami and how to make sushi and chow mein. She loved to show off her skills, especially when it was winning the grandkids at any Nintendo game. She will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
Survived by her four children, Anthony (Margene) Parsons, Helper; Douglas (Susan) Parsons, Sunnyside; Patty (Allen) Hannert, Price; Judy (Kim) Spigarelli, Price; 11 grandchildren, Amy (Jeremy), Lehi; Tony (Summer), Crestview, Fla.; Parker, Helper; Kara (Kelly), Sunnyside; Deanna (Lane), Craig, Colo.; D.J. (Annie), Port Angeles, Wash.; David, Price; John (Sam), Helper; Julie, Price; Kimberly, Salt Lake; Kelli, Price; 10 great-grandchildren and two more on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, grandson and her pets.
Graveside service, Fri., June 2 at 11 a.m., Price City Cemetery. Family was at Mitchell’s Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m.
Ardath Carr
PRICE-Mary Ardath Casaday Carr, age 95, passed away peacefully May 30, 2006 at Parkdale Care Center. She was born April 21, 1911 in Castle Gate, Utah to William E. and Mary Babcock Casaday. She married John Theo Carr, Oct. 7, 1950 in Reno, Nev.; he died Dec. 26, 1977.
Ardath was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was instrumental in starting three new churches. As a devoted member, she served as secretary and treasurer of these churches for more than 50 years, and also served in numerous capacities. Ardath worked as a lab tech for more than 60 years in various hospitals. She was very talented with her hands and she loved to make crafts of all sorts.
Survived by her son, Ben L. Carr, Auburn, Calif.; daughter, Anna Mae Taylor, Woodland, Calif.; brother, Raymond (Ellen) Casaday, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Edward and Theo Carr, daughters Louise and Sarah, brother Bill, sisters Fern, Enid, Verda, Mildred, Edna and Donna.
Funeral service was held Fri. June 2, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home. Family was at Mitchell’s the previous evening and prior to the service. Interment in the Price City Cemetery.
Kent Flewelling
GREEN RIVER-Kent Evans Flewelling, age 57, passed away suddenly May 28, 2006 at his daughter’s home in California. Born Nov. 6, 1948 in Joplin, Mo. to Elmer E. and Delma Morgan Flewelling.
Kent was a lifelong resident of Green River and graduate of Green River High School. He was a hard worker who enjoyed his career as a uranium miner. He honorably served his country in US Marine Corps.
Kent’s whole life was his three daughters whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed reading, politics, and history. He loved the outdoors and was a free spirit. Kent enjoyed a good laugh and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Our lives will never be the same without him.
Survived by his three daughters, Jennifer (Randy) Mathis, Hurricane; Samantha (Tony) Pearson, Hurricane; Amy Powers, Lake Forest, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, Robert, Gabby, Eden, Lilly, Lisa, Cassie, Kaileigh, Lindsey, Tanner, Morganne and Hailey. Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Maxine McDougal.
Graveside service was held Mon. June 5, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the Elgin Cemetery in Green River. Arrangements under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.
John Fowler
HUNTINGTON-John Connie Fowler, 93, of Huntington, died Tues. May 30, 2006 at the Castle County Care Center in Price. He was born April 28, 1913 in Cocke County Tennessee to John David and Parlee (Taley) Fowler. He married Hester (Polly) Kalfee on Dec. 18, 1934.
John was happiest when visited by family and friends. He was active in the LDS church and held various positions. He worked as a farmer, barber, bus driver, and a realtor. He and Polly moved to Utah in 1991 after retirement.
John is survived by his wife, Hester (Polly) Fowler; children, Jim (Pat) Fowler of Cheyenne, Wyo., Dewayne (Maryella) Fowler of Huntington, Shelia (Steve) Adams of Layton, and Rick Fowler of Las Vegas, Nev.; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also survived by a sister, Gertrude Hurley of Morristown, Tenn.
Services were held Sat. June 3 at 11 a.m. in the Huntington LDS stake center. Friends were welcomed to call an hour prior to services at the church. Interment in the Huntington City Cemetery. Services under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Verda Fraley
GREEN RIVER-Verda Seely Fraley, age 92, passed away June 1, 2006 in Ferron. She was born Jan. 3, 1914 in Sunnyside, Utah to George Willard and Olive Pursy Dickman Seely. She married LaMarr Hansen and had three children.
Verda was a remarkable homemaker and could make anything with her hands (cooking, quilting, knitting, crocheting, canning, gardening). Her motto was that old pioneer saying, “Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.” In addition to all this, she became a beautician and was one of the first in Utah to be licensed to do acrylic nails and individual false eyelashes. She was also an avid deer hunter and fisherman. In 1981 she went through the temple and received her endowments.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Richard and Beatrice Hansen of West Valley City, Edward and Norma Jean Hansen of Green River, Kay Jones of Teasdale, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and sisters, Louise Sherrill, Allene Spadafora, LaRue Hunt and Olive Anderson, all of Green River. Preceded in death by grandson, Thad Hansen, brother Don Seely, and sister Libby Harper.
Funeral services will be held Tues. June 6, 2006 at noon in the Green River Ward chapel where friends may call from 10:30-11:30 a.m., prior to services. Burial will be in the Elgin Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
