Know Before You Go


An ATV safety class that makes youth 8-16 legal to ride on public lands, will be held June 22 at the old courthouse in Castle Dale, at 7 p.m. You must preregister at Emery County Recreation, 75 South 400 East, Castle Dale. Community Water Safety Days


Come and learn pool and lake water safety for free. June 17- parents and children day 10 a.m.-noon and June 24- young adult and youth day 10 a.m.-noon. Free swim passes to everyone that comes and there will be a drawing for a goodie basket. Call the pool and sign up 381-5298.

Adult Education Programs


The Utah Education Network, a statewide provider of educational resources and technology, hosted a screening and discussion featuring clips of the adult education programs GED Connection, TV 411, and Workplace Essentials at Workforce Services on June 12. For copies of the programs, visit your local library to check them out.

Emery County Chamber of Commerce Meeting


The chamber meeting for June will be a workshop to prepare your records for a disaster, to be able to start up your business without the loss of the information you need. The workshop will be held June 20 at 6 p.m. at the Castle Dale Senior Center, 90 North 200 East.

Miss Heritage Days


The Miss Huntington Heritage Days pageant will be held on June 24 at 6 p.m. at Huntington Elementary.

Junior Golf Clinic


A free golf clinic for children age 8-17, sponsored by Emery County Recreation, will be held at Millsite Golf Course on June 19-20. On June 19, the clinic will be from 9-11 a.m. On June 20, the time will be from 9 a .m.-noon. The clinic will cover the basics of golf and golf etiquette, while also playing several holes of golf each day. Call Emery County Recreation for more information, 381-2108.

Spring for Children Poker Ride


The first annual Spring for Children poker ride, sponsored by BACA and the Children’s Justice Center and hosted by the Price Elk’s Lodge, will be held June 24. Pick your ride and meet at the Price Elk’s Lodge for the noon start. Registration begins at 11 a.m. The ride is 160 miles through scenic central Utah. Special Needs Swim Program


Registration will be held at the Emery County Recreation office for children with special needs swim program. The program will run from June 12-16 at 6 p.m. for one hour each day. This program is for children who are physically or mentally challenged. Your child must qualify to participate in this program. For more information, contact Emery County Recreation at 381-2108.

Single Adults ATV Ride


A single adults ATV ride will be held on June 17. All single adults are welcome to meet at the Mayor Park, State Street in Ferron, at 9:30 a.m. If you are 35 to 65 years old come for a great day on Ferron Mountain. Bring a lunch. Catch a Cure For Cancer


The annual Catch a Cure for Cancer fishing tournament will be held on June 24 at Starvation Reservoir. All proceeds go to Camp Hobe, an annual summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings. For more information on to www.catchacureforcancer.com

Summer Storytime at Orangeville Library


Orangeville Library is having a lot of fun things this summer. Along with storytime each Thursday, young readers can earn their own library card by reading 100 pages for each year of their age. Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. and the activities are: June 15-Lambchop jumps into the story; June 22-read with Stockton; June 29-pet show; July 6-maybe you should be a vet; July 13-catch it at the library; and July 20-wildlife at the library. Castle Country Horse Show Association


Show dates are July 1 and 22, Aug. 13 and Sept. 2. Registration is at 8 a.m. and the show starts at 9 a.m. $5 per class or $40 for entire show. Basketball Camps

Senior Beginners Line Dancing

Miss Cleveland

Farm Service Agency


Nominations for candidates to run for the Farm Service Agency county committee election will be accepted from June 15- Aug. 1. Ballots will be mailed to eligible voters by Nov. 3 and ballots must be returned by Dec. 4 to the FSA county office. New committee members and alternates will be installed on Jan. 1, 2007.

Golf Tournament 4 Man Scramble


Emery County Recreation and Millsite Men’s Association is having a 4 man scramble tournament on June 24 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry include green fees, cart and lunch. Veterans of Foreign Wars


A field service officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be at the Price Workforce Service Center on June 22 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. This is a free service to assist veterans, widows and dependents in understanding and applying for rightful VA benefits.

Food Handler’s Class


Food handler’s classes will be taught in Castle Dale at the health department on June 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. There is a charge and the class is two hours long. For more information contact Dr, Claron Bjork at 637-3671 or Lori at 381-2252.

Wrestling Sponsors


The Emery High wrestling team is looking for sponsors for their wrestling team. Attending tournaments throughout the year is expensive but necessary to add to the strength of the team. Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson (LVER) at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. Miss Emery Seeks Contestants


The Miss Emery Pageant will be held on July 15 at 7 p.m. The pageant committee is seeking those girls who would like to participate in the pageant. You can be a junior in high school through 24 years of age. Contestants will participate in swimwear, talent, evening gown and on stage question. Vendors wanted for the Emery County Fair to be held Aug. 3-5. Large crowds expected, security will be provided 24 hours a day, so daily load out is not required. Castle Country King Crawlers


Castle Country King Crawlers (CCKC) is your local 4×4 club for Carbon and Emery counties. We hold competitions and monthly trail rides. Stitches from the Heart needs volunteers to knit, crochet or quilt blankets, sweaters and hats for babies in need. These items are donated to hospitals all over the country. Patterns are available. Quilts of Valor


Quilts of Valor, a program that provides quilts to each injured serviceman or woman, is being organized in Emery County. This program needs funds and interested people to help with making the quilts. Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
