Heber City once again hosted the biggest rodeo in Utah on June 6-10 with over 900 entries in 12 events. Eleven Emery High School Rodeo Team members qualified for State by gathering points at rodeos held throughout the state during the year. During the finals rodeo, many of them raised their point standings by placing in the two go-rounds and the final go. Point standings were also enhanced by competitors who placed in the average of the three go’s. When the points were tallied, the top ten advanced to the final go round on Saturday night.
State qualifiers this year included Wacey Allred riding bulls, Jaden Bagley riding barebacks, Lacey Branson breakaway roping, Colton Grange team roping, Tawn Jewkes pole bending, Jacob Marshall, riding bulls, Justin Miller riding barebacks, Andy Sitterud calf roping and team roping, Chris Wilson riding bulls, Cade Whittle cutting, and Brock Winn riding saddlebroncs.
Riding great stock in the traditional torrential rains and muddy arenas, five of the Emery Team members: Wacey, Jaden, Justin, Brock, and Cade, advanced to the final go and finished in the top 10 in their events, qualifying them for the Silver State International Rodeo held in Fallon, Nev., during the first week in July. All of the other state qualifiers have also qualified to compete in the Panquitch Invitational in July.
Commenting on the State Finals Rodeo, Wacey said, “It was a fun rodeo. It would have been cool to make it to Nationals, but Fallon will be good and hopefully next year we’ll be better.”
Justin: “I didn’t have the year that I had hoped. The finals were fun and next year I’ll be ready to ride again and have a better year.”
Cade: “I was proud of my horse the first go and got second place. I didn’t do so well in the second go and the finals, but I’m looking forward to next year.”
Brock: “I had a good time. I could have done better in the first go-rounds, but you can’t go back. I had fun in Fallon last year so it will be fun to go back.”
