The Miss Emery Scholarship Pageant will be held on Friday, July 21. It will be held in the Emery High Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door or from one of the contestants.
The reigning Miss Emery, Shala Pitchforth and Sheriff Lamar Guymon will be the masters of ceremony.
Danielle Tuttle’s dancers, One Step Above will also perform at the event. Former Miss Emery’s will also perform a talent number.
Kelsi Ekker
Kelsi Ekker is from Huntington. Her platform issue is brain injury prevention and awareness. For her talent, she will perform a pop vocal number.
She has raised and sold watermelons on the family farm in Green River, owns and rides mules, knows how to yodel, is learning to become an auctioneer, and she has taken dance for five years.
Kelsi has been ninth grade student body secretary, a member of the Huntington Youth City Council, attended Girls State, and is currently Emery High Cheer representative. Kelsi’s career ambition is to obtain a doctorate of dentistry.
Tawny Conder
Tawny Conder is from Ferron. For her platform issue, she has chosen natural disaster preparedness. Her talent will be a vocal solo.
She shoots trap with a double barrel shotgun, owns five horses and has been riding since she was old enough to reach the stirrups, is active in the 4-H and FFA programs, loves baking and inventing new recipes, and has been a cast member of the Castle Valley Pageant for six years.
Tawny has been secretary of the Emery FFA chapter, president of the Happy Horsemen 4-H club, secretary of Utah’s 4-H Horse Bowl team, and attended 4-H teen leadership training.
Tawny’s ambition is to become a registered nurse.
Ashlin White
Ashlin White is from Castle Dale. Her platform issue is Where is the Love? For her talent she will do a vocal performance.
She wishes she could have a pet cow, and she has a passion for public speaking, She is the oldest of four children, and likes to take pictures.
Ashlin is the Family, Community, Career Leaders of America Club president, the vice president of the Speech and Debate Club, and is the Castle Dale City youth council mayor.
Ashlin’s ambition is to obtain a bachelors degree in international business, and then attend law school with a focus on international and family law.
Holly Damron
Holly Damron is from Clawson. Her platform issue is military family needs and awareness. Her talent will be a classical vocal number.
She has been home schooled since the age of 4, but has also participated in public school classes and activities. Her great-grandmother was noted as the oldest living woman veteran from WWI when she reached the age of 104.
Holly has been a Girls State registration agent, a children’s Sunday School teacher, a member of her church worship team leaders, youth missionary, vacation Bible school leader, Miss Peach Days Queen, cohost of the Peach Days pageant, and junior American Legion Auxiliary member.
Holly plans to obtain a Pharm-D degree and become a pharmacist.
Kristine Johansen
Kristine Johansen is from Castle Dale. Her platform issue is health and fitness. For her talent she will perform a ballet.
Kristine is a twin and she holds 11 weight lifting records in the State of Utah. She also set the record at her place of employment, Critter Country Fixins, for making the most shakes in one day. In high school, she was the only girl in her shop class, and she won a jump rope competition.
In the ninth grade, Kristine was the student body president. She has been the FCCLA president, the drill team president, cheerleading secretary, and president of the visiting teachers.
Kristine’s scholastic ambition is to major in elementary education with a minor in child development.
