Funnon T. Shimmin
PRICE-Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Funnon Thayn Shimmin, age 81, passed away peacefully at his cabin on July 16, 2006. He was born Nov. 13, 1924 in Wellington, Utah to Samuel Foster and Vera Thayn Shimmin. He married Donna Perry, Feb. 23, 1951, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; they later divorced. Married his longtime companion, Ann Macdonald, Nov. 15, 2003 in Wellington.
He was a member of the LDS Church where he was superintendent of Sunday School for many years. He served as past-president of the water company, cattleman’s association, and the Price Lion’s Club. He was awarded Soil Conservation Rancher of the Year.
Funnon worked as a general agent for Sentinel Security Life Insurance Company for 52 years, where he qualified for the president’s club convention every year until retirement and was awarded Salesman of the Year several years running. Funnon was a friend to all, he especially loved helping serve families for more than 50 years with Mitchell Funeral Home.
Funnon loved the outdoors and he enjoyed working on his ranch and cattle operations. He was always developing additional rangeland for his cattle and improving habitat for wildlife on his mountain property. His home away from home was his cabin, where he could always be found entertaining guests and guiding hunters for deer and elk.
He enjoyed his many friendships that he made in his snowmobile, riding and dance clubs. Funnon’s concern and friendship for others will leave us with a lifetime of memories.
Survived by his wife Ann Shimmin, Price; two sons and one daughter, David (Terri) Shimmin, Springville; Diane (Gary) Riddle, American Fork; Michael (Tammie) Shimmin, Sandy; step-children, Ian (Jennifer) Macdonald, Lafayette, La.; Pam (Dean) Henderson, Riverton; Mark (Denise) Macdonald, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Mary Macdonald, Midvale; sister, Lucille (Andrew) Cook, Carbonville; brother Dean (Judy) Shimmin, Provo; sister-in-law, Jacqualine Shimmin, Tooele; nine grandchildren, 16 step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, son, Phillip; and brother, Lynwood.
Funeral service will be held Fri. July 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Price Fourth LDS Ward chapel, located at 585 East 400 North in Price. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church Friday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment in the Price City Cemetery.
Willie (William) Sepulveda
GREEN RIVER, UTAH-Willie (William) Sepulveda passed away Tues. July 11, 2006 at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.
He was born March 9, 1923 in Red Cliff, Colo. to Mike Sepulveda and Carlotta Gallegos Sepulveda. He married (Sally) Maria Celina Marquez on Sept. 13, 1965 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango, Colo.
Willie enjoyed being outside, gardening, fishing, camping, and having cook outs. He liked to travel, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his three children: Rose Sepulveda (Randy) Deitlaf, Moab, Utah; Marilyn Hendricks (Mike) Gee, Green River; Roy (Sharee) Sepulveda, Green River; Virginia Sepulveda (Cochise) Murray, Moab, Utah. Grandchildren: Christina Sepulveda Williams, Ana Rosa Trejo, Tasha Trejo, Carlos Trejo, Julio Hendricks, Billie Hendricks, Robert Hendricks, Jeannie Brown, Tabbitha Brown, Ashley Murray, Emily Murray, and Rebecca Murray. Great-grandchildren: Melanie Soto, Jennifer Williams, Monica Williams, Destiny Williams, Anna Rosa Trejo, Tacha Ramirez O’Lousen, Jade Trejo, Saul Telles, Rabi Telles, Alicia Espinosa, Daisy Zamudio, Dominique Johnson, and Alexis Johnson. Also survived by ex-wife Sally Brown, brother Herman, Denver, Colo., sister Frances McFarland, Michigan, half-sister Gloria Marquez, East Carbon. He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather Faris, brother Eppie, sister Rosa Anna Sepulveda Whitney.
A memorial service will be held Tues. July 18 at 11 a.m. at the Green River Bible Church. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to defer the cost of cremation. Donations should be sent to Sepulveda, Box 463, Green River, UT 84525.

Ann S. Perri
SPRING GLEN- Anna Svetich Perri, age 82, passed away peacefully July 15, 2006 at her home in Spring Glen while surrounded by her loved ones.
Born Jan. 14, 1924 in Mutual, Utah to Pete and Matilda Barich Svetich. Married Tony Perry Sr. June 13, 1943 in Spring Glen. Their marriage was later blessed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper.
She was an active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, and her greatest passion was singing in the church choir. After graduating from Carbon High School in 1943 she went to work for the Rains Post Office, later transferring to the Helper Post Office where she retired. She also worked at Helper State Bank for many years. Her retirement years were filled with traveling and camping in the motor home with her husband and many friends. One of her favorite trips was to travel to Arizona to see Pope John Paul II. She cherished the many trips to the Black Hills area in South Dakota and she looked forward to her Sunday afternoon rides in the nearby mountains with her husband.
Mom was proud to have been raised in the Spring Canyon Coal Camps, and enjoyed reminiscing and sharing her stories of growing up in the area. Ann was a big fan of Elvis Presley and she loved anything that had to do with “Elvis.”
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bonnie Kirkwood for her extreme dedication and care of Ann.

Rose Vea
SPRING GLEN-Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Rose Saccomano Vea, age 82, passed away peacefully July 16, 2006 while surrounded by her loving family in Price.
She was born Sept. 25, 1923 in Grimaldi Cosenza, Italy to Antonio and Francesca Maio Saccomano. She married John Vea Jan. 28, 1950 in Salt Lake City.
Mom was a devoted member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helper and spent many hours praising the Blessed Mother with her rosary. She loved to dance the tarantella and sing Italian songs. She loved to meet people and tell them jokes with her broken English.
Nana loved to spend time in the kitchen cooking and having coffee hour with her family and friends. She spent many hours making provolone cheese for the community. She loved her garden and enjoyed canning what she had grown.
Mom and dad would argue over a spoon just to have something to argue about. Any time you walked into her home you could feel the love as soon as you hit the stairs. She will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends that loved her very much.
The family would like to thank the staff at Castleview Hospital, Community Nursing, Dr. Max Morgan, and Dr. Daniel Monahan, for the loving care they gave over the past years and especially her last days.
Survived by her loving husband John; five children, Mary Wilberg, Carbonville; Frances (Tallee) Fillingim: Jerry (Bonnie) Vea, both of Spring Glen; Johnny (Tammy) Vea, Carbonville; Paul Vea, Spring Glen; sister, Antonette (Leo) Guzzetto, Vancouver, B.C.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Mass will be held Fri. July 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service will be Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The family will be at the church Thursday and Friday one hour prior to service. Entombment in the Price City Cemetery.

Matthew Elliott
NAPLES/HUNTINGTON-Matthew Nathan Elliott, 30, passed away July 8, 2006 in Naples. He was born March 11, 1976 in Prescott, Ariz., the son of Clifton M. Elliott Jr. and Diane (Crary) Anderson.
Matthew loved the outdoors, whether it was riding motorcycles, cliff repelling or playing golf. He enjoyed his job at True Drilling on the oil rigs. Most of all, he enjoyed the time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his fiance, Tara Leamaster and her son, Anthony, both of Huntington; son Jazrick of Salt Lake City; daughter Eminie of Huntington; parents; stepmother, Carolyn Jensen; brothers, John of Castle Dale, Cliff of Price, and Cody of Craig, Colo.; and sister, Amanda of Castle Dale. Also survived by many other extended loving family members and friends. Preceded in death by his grandfather, Clifton M. Elliott Sr.
Services were held Fri. July 14 at 1 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Friends were welcomed to call an hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Interment in the Huntington City Cemetery.
