Former teacher sentenced

Former San Rafael Junior High art teacher, Brandy Yates was sentenced in Seventh District Court on July 18. Yates had been charged with attempted forcible sex abuse which is a third degree felony. The defendant pled no contest on April 18 at the disposition.
The defendant appeared before Judge Bruce K. Halliday. The sentence for her charge is: Based on the defendant’s conviction of Attempted Forcible Sex Abuse, a third degree felony, the defendant is sentenced to an indeterminate term of not to exceed five years in the Utah State Prison. The prison term is suspended. Defendant is sentenced to serve 90 days of home confinement. The defendant is placed on probation for 36 months. Probation is to be supervised by adult probation and parole.
Probation conditions include: Usual and ordinary conditions required by the Department of Adult Probation and parole.
Do not use, consume or possess alcohol or illegal drugs, nor associate with any people using, possessing or consuming alcohol or illegal drugs. Pay restitution as determined by probation officer. Defendant is ordered to wear an ankle bracelet if deemed appropriate by AP&P. Defendant is ordered to have no contact with the victim. Defendant is ordered to register as a sex offender with the State of Utah.
Defendant is ordered to have no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18 without parents permission.
Defendant is ordered to attend sex offender therapy. Defendant is ordered to pay $1,500 in fines to AP&P. Credit will be given against the fine for any therapy or restitution as a result of this incident.
