Letter to the Editor: Repatriation and dirty secrets

By FRANK M. PELTESON Las Vegas

Editor,
At the end of World War II, Eisenhower gave unqualified approval to such monstrous schemes as the notorious Operation Keelhaul, the “repatriation” of Russian, Ukrainian, and other peoples who had escaped Stalin’s hell on earth behind the retreating German armies. Perhaps five million people were herded into trucks and railway boxcars and shipped eastward to certain death or worse. Operation Keelhaul was FDR’s and Eisenhower’s magnificent gift to Stalin and to his grim, gulag empire; it was a culmination of friendship, fidelity, and accord; and it was a deed that for its sheer infamy is unmatched in the history of our nation and its armed forces.
The prime sources for this US-led travesty are Julius Epstein’s Operation Keelhaul, The Story of Forced Repatriation (Devin-Adair, 1973) and Robert Welch’s “The Politician”.
Epstein discovered evidence of this top secret program of forced repatriation, which is still classified to this day. Obviously the US has some very dirty secrets they still want hidden.
Keelhaul verifies that our leaders have the capability of repatriating millions of anti-Communists when it suits them. In the case of millions of illegal invaders from the south, it suits them to avoid this capability in order to let them remain in our country.
What do these two capabilities have in common?
