AnnDee Adams takes back Rifle, Colo. arena record
After some fast ground conditions and a spectacular run in July of 2005, Krystal Prather broke AnnDee Adams arena record at the Garfield County Fairgrounds Indoor Arena in Rifle, Colo. with a time of 14.786.
On Sept. 23 the moon and stars were in perfect alignment for Adams and her palomino wonder horse MCB Mr. Moon Lark to crush Prather’s time and write their names in stone in the record books. When the Farmtek timer stopped a startling 14.475 was announced to a breathless crowd.
“Tink (the barn name for MCB Mr Moon Lark) fired harder to first than I’ve ever seen him do and just barely went by but never quit running… I knew the run was fast but had no idea it was that fast,” NBHA District 10 Director Denneane Northcutt explained. “That was just amazing.”
Colorado had been plagued by heavy rains, snow and very cold temperatures in the weekdays preceding the race. The cold temperatures combined with great ground conditions and a spectacular run all coincided perfectly for Adams.
Adams would leave Colorado for her home in Castle Dale having won both days’ Open 1D and Youth 1D in the NBHA CO-10 races and doing the same in the Racing in the Rockies Better Barrel Races sanctioned Open 1D and Youth 1D.
The NBHA CO-10 Open 2D saw another spectacular palomino horse at the top of the leader board. Margie Ward, Eagle, Colo. and Native Corn Husker took the honors on Saturday with a very fast 14.990, a personal best in the Rifle arena, good enough to capture the Open 2D first place check on Saturday. Gayla Shaefer, Fruita, Colo. and Dat’s Real Easy would take the Open 2D on Sunday.
Marley Hammer, Burns, Colo. and Kasey Jones were at the top of the Open 3D on Saturday with Jodi Kirby and Geez Louise winning the Open 3D Sunday. Hammer would also win the Youth 3D on Saturday with Adams leading the way and setting the fast time in the Youth as well as the Open.
AnnDee Adams’ mother, and veteran barrel race announcer, Amy Adams collected a paycheck of her own on Saturday winning the Open 4D aboard Oxford’s Little Rocket. NBHA CO-10 member Barb Steele, Delta, Colo. and Leos Flashy Renegade took the Open 4D on Sunday.
While AnnDee Adams dominated Open and Youth competition each day the Seniors were breathing a sigh of relief that Adams was not entered in their barrel race.
