When I started my career in law enforcement in 1970, I dedicated myself to be the best deputy Emery County ever had. When I ran for sheriff in 1974, my goal was not to be one of the youngest sheriffs ever elected or to set a record for the sheriff that served the longest. My goal was to be the best sheriff that ever served Emery County. And to make Emery County dependent on no one for law enforcement and emergency services.
I have worked continuously to do that and to keep myself physically and mentally prepared to do my job. But most of all my success is credited to the good people I have to work with at the Sheriff’s Office. As well as dedicated and well trained EMTs, firemen, search and rescue personnel and many other volunteers, a very loving understanding wife and very supportive family.
Not only was my goal to be the best sheriff but to be the very best public servant I could be by serving on boards and committees outside of law enforcement. I currently serve on the Emery County Travel Council, Castle Country Travel Council, Historical Preservation Committee, the State Emergency Services Operations Committee, the State Emergency Services Grants Committee, Castleview Hospital Board, President of the Utah Association of Counties 2004, and now as a board member. I am your public servant and I am at your service.
I have attended the FBI Academy, the National Sheriff’s Academy, American Corrections Academy, and attend from 40-100 hours per year of law enforcement leadership and management training. Also, 32 years of successfully managing and running a correction facility, as well as 32 years of managing a successful law enforcement agency.

Hello Citizens of Emery County.
My name is Gordon Bennett, and I am running for Emery County Sheriff. I was raised in Millard County where I had a great childhood. I worked in construction at the Hunter Power Plant for a short time and met my wife Darshan Childs of Orangeville.
I wanted to be a police officer since I was a young boy, and pursued this dream by working for Emery County Sheriff’s Office, Fillmore City Police Department, Millard County Sheriff’s Office, and the Utah Highway Patrol. I currently have 24 years of law-enforcement experience.
I have lived in Ferron for the past 18 years. I was a city councilman in Ferron City for six years. I was over the water department and the fire department and was instrumental in getting a much-needed fire station. I believe in being prepared for problems and disasters of any type and in having the necessary tools to combat them.
As a law enforcement officer, I specialized in alcohol and drug training and received many other types of training. I know that a police officer needs all the training possible to be professional. Some of the training I have received to prepare me to be your sheriff includes dispatch, corrections, civil process, drug recognition expert (DRE), emergency medical technician, training instructor school for police officers, and internal affairs training. I am a specialist in alcohol and drug training, and I am qualified as an expert witness in the identification of marijuana.
I retired from the Utah Highway Patrol last November and am currently employed with Consolidation Coal Company as a safety specialist. I love the law enforcement profession and would really enjoy being the next Sheriff of Emery County.
