Republican Candidates


Emery County Republican party candidates will speak at the following locations: Nov. 1, Green River, City Hall, 7 p.m.; Nov. 2, Emery City Hall, 7 p.m.; Nov. 3, Orangeville City Hall, 7 p.m.; Nov. 6, Cleveland City Hall, 7 p.m.

Holiday Shopping Expo


A Holiday Shopping Expo will be held at Huntington Elementary on Nov. 25 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Santa Claus will visit. For more information or to reserve a booth call Lyndsey at 749-1142.

American Legion Project


On Nov. 4, the American Legion Auxiliary is doing a service project for the veterans in the VA Hospital. They will be tying lap quilts to be given to the veterans. Donations of fabric, completed blankets or lap quilts, or time to tie on that day, will be accepted. You do not have to be a member of the Legion to come out and help. The project will begin at 10 a.m. with a potluck luncheon at noon. Held at the American Legion Hall in Huntington (old city hall). Criteria for membership in the Legion is to be the wife, daughter, sister, or granddaughter of someone who has or is serving in the military. Step families are also eligible.

Hunter Safety Class


A hunter safety class will be held Nov. 1-3 and 8-9 at the Emery County Recreation Center from 4-7 p.m. There is no age limit. You many pre-register for more information call 381-2108 or go to www.emerycounty.com/rec.

Habitat for Humanity


Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country is accepting home applications. Appicants must complete 20 hours of work for the group, have been turned down for a conventinonal home loan and have a stable income. Volunteers and board members are needed. Donations may be sent to HHCC, P.O.Box 724, Price, Utah 84501. Residents may volunteer for workdays, donate aluminum cans or obtain applications by going to their new office located at 151 South 700 East, the All Srapped Up building or by calling 435-637-9701.

Festive Friday


Class cost is $2 and will be held at the Old Emery County Courthouse in the small conference room at noon. Let us know if you’re coming but as always everyone is welcome. Call the Extension Office for more information and to register at 381-2381.

Historical Society


For November the Historical Society will sponsor a special Veterans Day program at the Museum on Nov. 8 from 4-6 p.m. It will feature an exhibit of cars painted in memory of a soldier killed in Afghanistan. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lehmiller will then speak at 6:30 p.m.

Emery County Headstart


Rural Utah Child Development “Head Start” would like to announce an open house on Nov. 6, from 1-3 p.m., located at 685 North 400 East, Huntington. Light refreshments will be served.

Attention Hunters


Elmo Daughter of the Utah Pioneers’ annual breakfast/lunch will be held, Nov. 4 at the Elmo DUP building, 55 South 100 East. Breakfast will be from 8-10 a.m. and lunch will be from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Drawing for a queen size tricot quilt (pheasant design) and other items will be held at 3 p.m. Need not be present to win.

Food Handler’s Class


Food handler’s classes will be held on Nov. 16 and Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Health Department, 25 West Main in Castle Dale. Christmas Extravaganza


The annual Christmas Extravaganza will be held Dec. 2 at the Emery County Recreational Center in Castle Dale. We are looking for people to provide entertainment that day from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Performances could be any type of musical number, dramatic readings, poetry, stories, dance, drill or any numbers that add to our Holiday event. Prehistory Week Poster Contest


State History announces the 2007 Utah Prehistory Week Poster Contest. The winning poster will be professionally printed and distributed nationwide to promote Utah’s exciting past, there will also be cash awards. Posters should be submitted no later than Jan. 1, 2007 to the Antiquities Section of State History, 300 South Rio Grande Street, Salt Lake City, Ut 84101. Veteran’s Day Concert


The Utah National Guard will hold its 51st annual Veteran’s Day Concert on Nov. 11 at the University of Utah’s Jon M. Huntsman Center at 7 p.m. Admission is free and the public is invited. TRUTH Campaign


The 2007 TRUTH from Youth Anti-tabacco advertising contest is giving fourth and fifth graders the opportunity to become a big-time producer. Emery County Veterans


If you would like to participate in this year’s Veterans Day assembly at San Rafael Junior High School on Nov. 10, please call the school secretary at 384-2335 before Oct. 27. Your participation would help our students remember and pay tribute to all veterans.

American Legion Fundraiser Raffle


The American Legion Post 73 is sponsoring two raffles to raise funds to help needy military families. Tickets can be purchased at Jones Ace Hardware, Desertview Federal Credit Union, Maverik in Huntington and Castle Dale, BK’s Stop and Shop, Wards 4X4, Hart’s, and Magnusons. Be generous, the families need your support.

Gingerbread House Festival


The Gingerbread House Festival, a new event in Emery County, will be held Dec. 1-2 at the Emery County Recreation Center. Admission is free. Everyone who wants to participate should build a gingerbread house and bring it to the festival. If house aren’t your style, try a sleigh or a gingerbread man or woman. These can be done by a group, family or individual. Each creation must be 80 percent edible, and the winners of the house division will be eligible to compete at the Utah County Gingerbread House competiton. Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson (LVER) at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive, for questions about VA benefits, assistance with VA applications, employment assistance and other veterans issues. LDS 12-step meeting is every Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Delta Seminary. Everyone is welcome.

Tip Line for Drug Violations


A tip line has been introduced in Emery County. The Emery County drug task force is requesting help from the residents to report any suspicious drug activity. The number is 381-2888, and all callers will remain anonymous. It is very important for citizens to be actively involved in helping remove drugs users and pushers from Emery County.

Operation Home Support

Project ChildSafe


Project ChildSafe, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation will be distributing free gun locks throughout Emery County. Members of the community may call their local law enforcement agency for information on how to obtain a free gun lock.

Support Group for Parents

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare. Utah Valley Cancer Center, located at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has a new toll-free phone number. Anyone can call 1-866-549-3800 to schedule an appointment, get information about local cancer support groups or to find out more about IHC cancer services and physicians. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
