Scott Labrum, Darrin Hurdsman and Jonathon Fauver operate Extreme Adventure Rentals.

So, you’re in charge of the family reunion this year and you’re fresh out of ideas. Well, let Extreme Adventure Rentals help you out. Take the family out on ATVs or maybe some personal watercraft are more to your liking. Whatever the case, Extreme Adventure is ready and willing to serve you. Jonathon Fauver is the newest addition to the team. He is excited about the business. “We recently purchased the Joe’s Valley Marina from the Snow family. We have plans to remodel the marina and have a convenience store along with fishing and camping supplies. We will also have a kitchen where you can get burgers and fries. In the future we would like to add on a dining room and lounge where you could have a nice meal in a comfortable setting looking out over Joe’s Valley.
“We might like to add a Friday night all you can eat dinner at some point. We are excited to develop the marina. We want to add cabins that people can rent and a pavilion to hold family reunions or activities. We will work on remodeling the interior this year and next year we’ll work on the exterior expansion. We will be open four months of the year at Joe’s Valley and we want to be open during the hunting seasons. We are looking at getting our own water source, so we can be open more during the colder months, maybe weekends or select times during the winter.
“We rent ATVs, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, boats and we have a pontoon boat available for rental. We are working with the BLM and US Forest Service to also run an outfitter and guide service so we can take people out to see some of the wonderful attractions in our county and surrounding area. You can see so much more as a visitor when you go with someone who knows the area and they add to your experience.
“We visualize people coming in and staying at the marina and utilizing Joe’s Valley. It was really used and visited during the 70s and since then usage has dropped off. We really want to try to promote Joe’s Valley as a prime area to visit. We are developing a website and also working with the Emery County Travel Council.
“There are so many recreational opportunities here. Emery County is an untapped resource. We also want to cater to the niche groups. We have world class bouldering and climbing sites in Emery County. We have bouldering visitors, ice climbers and others who utilize our area and we don’t even know they’re here. We need to cater to them and bring opportunities for them to stay longer in the county. We do need more facilities and infrastructure in our area.
“We would like to take a progressive approach to development and businesses that cater to these tourist user groups. Now they just pass through and we really can’t take advantage of their being here,” said Fauver.
Darrin Hurdsman and Scott Labrum are partners in Extreme Adventure Rentals and Joe’s Valley Marina, “We want to give people what they want and need. We want to know what their interests are. With the ATV guides you can see more as opposed to just riding the roads and trails. It will be an added element to the business. We can take you to places you would never see on your own,” said Hurdsman.

Extreme ATV tours is part of the future for Extreme Adventure Rentals. They will guide people on the Swell and on the Manti-LaSal forest.

Labrum said, “We have sights and attractions here you just can’t see anywhere else. I encourage everyone to come here and see what Emery County’s all about.
Fauver said, “We can take you on trails for the beginners or for the advanced rider. We have country here that you can just drive to on an ATV. In some areas of the state, you are limited to foot traffic only, but here we can take people in to see things on ATV; it’s a total experience. We are also looking into renting 4×4 trucks and jeeps. Whatever people need to recreate. It makes sense to rent ATVs. If you are only using your machines a couple of times a year then why pay a high payment every month. Just rent one when you need it. It’s a lot cheaper. Also, we rent to people who have family coming in and they have machines, but need to rent a couple more machines with trailers for the weekend. It just makes sense. Why own when you can rent? Avoid payments, avoid storage.
“We have Arctic Cat and Yamaha snowmobiles and trailers for hauling the snowmobiles to the mountain. Up on the Skyline there are open areas that are just fantastic and easy for the beginning rider. Or there are very technical areas up there for the advanced more experienced enthusiast. There is just a gamut of opportunities on the mountain. We will offer tours for the beginning riders and show you the tricks on learning to ride a snowmobile.
“We have no restrictions on where you take our rental machines as long as we know where you are going and when to expect you back. This way if someone gets into trouble we can send Emery County search and rescue to help. You can take the wave runners to Lake Powell, anywhere. With the ATVs you can haul them on our trailers or your own. The wave runners come on their own trailer.
“To rent an ATV is $90 a day for one machine plus tax. We offer discounts on multiple machines and multi day rentals. The snow machines are $120 a day. The wave runners are $110. More boats are coming soon.
“We just love this area and want to see it grow. We believe there is a regional and a national market for our area. We have had a group from Oregon come in and go on an ATV tour. We’ve also had people from Pennsylvania. We see the opportunity to bring people in. There aren’t any rentals on this side of the mountain and we see the potential for this business and what it can be. We are also looking at planned events and activities to bring people to our area.
“We want to create a positive experience for our customers so they will want to come back. We want to plan everything so it will be as easy as possible for the customers to come here and recreate. What do you want to do? We can make it happen,” said Fauver.
