Emery softball loses three, play-off hopes dim

Assistant coach Elise Curtis tells Chantelle Benson great job on a catch.

The Emery Spartan softball team suffered through three straight losses at home last week to almost extinguish any playoff hope for this year. Emery started off the week with a 6-4 loss to the North Sanpete Hawks. Emery then closed out the week with a doubleheader loss to Delta. They lost the first game 9-4 and then the second game 15-6.
In the North Sanpete game, Emery led after the first five innings 1-0 but could not contain the potent Hawks to close the game. Emery outhit the Hawks 11-9 but threw in five errors to complicate things. Delta on the other hand, just got up on Emery and stayed there.
Juan Diego leads the region with a 10-0 region record followed by North Sanpete and then Delta. Emery and Carbon are tied for fourth in the region with 2-9 records. With Carbon having defeated Emery in two out three games this season, the Dinos have the tiebreaker if the season finishes out that way.
Emery will face Juan Diego in Castle Dale this Thursday at 3:30 p.m. to close out the region season. Emery must win this game and Carbon must lose their final game for Emery to have the chance at going to the play-offs.
