Cordova, Fail lead Pirates in state track

Adriana Cordova throws in the javelin competition at the state meet held at Brigham Young University. She took first place in javelin at the meet.

Adriana Cordova won the 1-A javelin throw at the recently completed state track meet at BYU and Kaleb Fail finished second in the long jump as the two led their teams at the track meet.
The Lady Pirates finished eighth with 33.5 points as Rich won the meet with 106 points. The boys finished eleventh with 22 points. Panguitch edged Duchesne for the team title. Panguitch finished with 110.5 points to Duchesne with 102 points.
Adriana won the javelin with a throw of 120-08 to win by slightly more than nine feet. Her best throw came on her last attempt but she had thrown four other times that had also bested the second place finisher.
Adriana also finished second in the high jump with a leap of 5-00. Courtney Carter finished tied for sixth in high jump with a jump of 4-08. Also placing for the Lady Pirates was Lindsey Spadafora in the long jump. Lindsey jumped 15-07.25 to finish third. Hannah Mitchell finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 29-09.50.

The 1600 sprint medley relay team finished fifth with a time of 4:51.76. The team consisted of Adriana Cordova, Hannah Mitchell, Lindsey Spadafora and Leah Swalberg. The 4×400-meter relay team finished eighth with a time of 4:43.02. This team consisted of Adriana, Crosby Hatt, Lindsey and Leah.
Kaleb Fail had the best finish of the boys at the state meet. Kaleb finished second in the long jump with a leap of 20-10.25. He lost by 6.5 inches to a jumper out of Layton Christian.
Parker Hatt finished third in the javelin throw with a toss of 156-03. Also placing individually for the boys team were Brent Johnson in the 300-meter hurdles and Wayde Mecham in the shot put.
Green River’s 1600 sprint medley relay team and the 4×100-meter relay team each finished sixth. The sprint team consisted of Brennan Bigelow, Kaleb Fail, Brent Johnson and David Wilson and they finished with a time of 3:54.69. The other relay team consisted of Brennan, Kaleb, Wayde Mecham and David. They finished with a time of 47.20.
