Cowboy Poetry Night


Presented by Emery County Historical Society and Castle Valley Ranch on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Castle Valley Outdoors on Emery’s Muddy Creek. Cowboy Poetry by local cowboy poets. Music by Shawn Tomsich and Al Shakspeare and Dr Otto Dickman. Dutch oven cobbler and ice cream.To arrive at Castle Valley Outdoors, leave from the South side of Ferron, mile post #25. Travel south on Hwy 10. Proceed south past the Moore exit, over the new Muddy Creek Bridge. Turn left on the next road at the gate with the sign “Castle Valley Outdoors”. Do not leave the gate open. Travel one mile east to a parking lot. We recommend that everyone bring a folding chair and a coat. Come and enjoy an evening of entertainment with us. Family Night


A free family night will be held on Sept. 12 from 5:30- 8:30 p.m. at Emery High School. Session for parents will be: what not to do when parenting teens, taking stress out of discipline, drug and alcohol identification, internet safety and homework help for parents. Sessions for youth will be dating 101, math fun and games, substance prevention and how to get what you want: manipulating parents. Daycare will be provided. There will be booths, activities and dinner.

Hope In The Park


Hope in the Park benefit concert for our miners will be held on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Huntington Main Street park. Live entertainment and concessions will be sold. All proceeds go to the families of the miners. Pass the hope and come join in the support for the six.

Elmo Showdeo


Elmo Horse-N-Buggy Days Showdeo will be held Aug. 17 at Reeds Arena. Sign ups begin at 4 p.m. and events begin at 5 p.m. There will be concessions. Events are: stick horse barrels; lead line; speed barrels; candy race; poles; money goat; key hole; chicken chase; clover leaf barrels; and hide race. Trapped Miners Families


A special fund has been set up which goes directly to the families of the trapped miners. To make a donation, call Huntington City Hall at 687-2436 or take that donation to City Hall. No donation is too small.

Emery High Tennis


All girls ninth-12th grade are encouraged to come play tennis. No experience needed, just a desire to play. All you need is a racquet and shoes. Come to the high school at 7 a.m. beginning Aug. 14.

Country Jam in Huntington


Country Jam will be held in Huntington on Aug. 17 at the Huntington City Park on Main Street beginning at 6 p.m. Bands from all over Emery and Carbon counties will perform. Food and drink will be available, admission is 25 cents. Come and have fun. Sponsored by the Huntington Lions Club.

Little Miss Peach Blossom


The Ferron Little Miss Peach Blossom will be held Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Emery High School auditorium.

New organization needs volunteer

Golf-Ride-Golf


Play Millsite for the front nine, ride your ATV to Green River, and play Green River for the back nine. This event will take place over three days with camping in the state parks adjacent to the golf courses. Vehicles will be transported by the Emery County Sheriff’s Posse. Peach Days at Emery County Care and Rehab


Raffle tickets will be available to benefit Emery County Care and Rehab. Items to be raffled are: 270 Winchester Ruger M77 rifle; two vacations for two adults and three children to 28 different locations; quilts; BBQ and utensils; ATV storage cover; and more. Aircraft Carrier Nimitz


The Nuclear Attack Aircraft Carrier USS NIMITZ is currently deployed to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. More than 40,000 of our citizens have served in The Great Ship Nimitz over the past 32 years. She will serve our country for at least 18 more years for a total of 50. We are trying to locate as many former Shipmates as possible.”The USS Nimitz (CVN-68), Association is searching for Shipmates (Ship’s Company, Staff, Squadrons and Detachments) who served on board the Nuclear Attack Aircraft Carrier for a ship’s reunion in Nashville, Tenn., June 19-22, 2008. Dinner and Western Show


The Bar G Wranglers will perform at the 777 ranch in Ferron on Aug. 17-18. A chuckwagon dinner is at 6 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Costs are $20 a person for ages 10 and up and ages 3-9 are $10.

All-star Cheerleading

Soldiers Addresses Needed


American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have loved ones proudly serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan. We have a program started three years ago called Operation Home Support which we send packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County residents with the names and addresses of your loved ones that are serving. They need a package from Operation Home Support to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and support them. Old Mine Maps

Local Veterans Employment Representative


A local veterans employment representative visits the Castle Dale DWS Office the first Wednesday of each month. Appointments can also be arranged on other days by contacting Steve Wilkinson at (435) 636-2343. The LVER is also available Monday through Friday at Department of Workforce Services, 475 West Price River Drive. The Three Wishes Inc. Program makes available power (electric) wheelchairs to senior citizens (65 years and older) and the permanently disabled at no cost to the recipient, if they qualify. Call toll free at 1-800-817-1871.

CASA Volunteers Needed


Each year hundreds of children in Emery and Carbon counties become wards of the juvenile court system due to child abuse, neglect or abandonment. The child welfare system can only devote so much time and attention to each individual case and, consequently, to each individual child. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Volunteers are ordinary men and women who find it in their hearts and their schedules to help these abused and neglected children. Angels Have Wheels


All Medicare recipients should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and respiratory disorders, and have difficulty walking or propelling a standard wheelchair, they maybe eligible to receive an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicare.
