The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team from Salt Lake City has served hundreds of meals and countless beverages to emergency workers and volunteers who are responding to the trapped miners in Huntington.
The EDS vehicle (canteen) is providing breakfast, lunch and dinner to more than 100 people at each meal. The location of the EDS canteen is located on Highway 31, 12 miles west of Huntington at the on-site command post.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the mining families and emergency workers,” said Gordon Franks, Utah Service Extension Field Representative for The Salvation Army. “The Salvation Army will continue to serve here as long as we are needed to meet those in need, in the place of need.”

The Salvation Army stayed at the command post from Aug. 7-22. The Aug. 22 lunch was their last meal at the command post. Those on site very much appreciated the services of the Salvation Army during the mine disaster.
